Dear Upper Darby Residents,

After much thought and consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election to Upper Darby Township Council. As my term comes to an end, I am choosing to focus on my family, professional career, and the next chapter of my life.

Serving as your Councilman for the 7th District over the past five years—and six by the end of my term—has been one of the greatest honors of my life. When I was first appointed at just 23 years old, I was the youngest council member at the time. Since then, I have dedicated myself to addressing the quality-of-life concerns that matter most to our community, from improving recreation opportunities to enhancing public safety. Throughout my tenure, I have had the privilege of serving as both Vice President and President of Council, working to make Upper Darby a better place for all.

I am deeply grateful to the residents of the 7th District for believing in me and entrusting me with the responsibility of representing you. Your support, engagement, and passion for our community have inspired me every step of the way. While I will not be seeking another term, I will always remain committed to the progress and success of Upper Darby.

Thank you for allowing me to serve.

Sincerely,
Hafiz Tunis Jr.
President, Upper Darby Township Council

I had a wonderful time this weekend at the Upper Darby Township Council's 3rd Annual Mental Health Fair, which was organized in collaboration with Ed Brown, Mayor Upper Darby Township administration. The Community Engagement committee , led by Chair Secretary Michelle for Council at Large and including members Councilor Councilwoman Danyelle Blackwell & David Bantoe, did an outstanding job. A huge shoutout to Councilor Minick and his family for generously volunteering their time for this event. It was an incredible day for residents to access mental health resources and connect with the community!

Despite a little rain today, I had a fantastic time in Upper Darby, also known as “The World in One Place,” at Delaware County’s Asian American & Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration. Grateful that Delaware County picked Upper Darby for this event. Growing up here, I witnessed firsthand the invaluable contributions Asian Americans have made to the United States, right here in Upper Darby.

Enjoying a lovely Saturday in Upper Darby!

Kicked off my day participating in the Upper Darby Environmental Committee’s ‘Hike, Bike, & Roll Trail Challenge,’ starting from the 7th District Chapman Park Trail.

Later, I had the pleasure of attending Rep. Heather Boyd & Upper Darby Township - Government Pet Expo. My cat, Sayge, received some complimentary shots sponsored by Upper Darby Township. The event was filled with unique animals like goats and skunks, making it an enjoyable and enriching experience. Overall, it was a fantastic day in our community!

An incredible day at the Drexel Hill Little League opening ceremony! Grateful for the opportunity to speak on behalf of Mayor Ed Brown and stand united with Upper Darby Council in supporting our young athletes. The energy from the families and kids gearing up for the season was truly uplifting. Here’s to a fantastic season ahead!

Today, I had the honor of being invited to an iftar dinner at Masjid Al-Madinah by the President of the Masjid Al-Madinah and former Sixth District Councilman, Sheikh Siddique. It was a truly uplifting experience to come together with members of our Islamic community in such a welcoming and inclusive setting.

I was delighted to see not only the vibrant spirit of unity and fellowship among attendees but also the presence of distinguished guests such as Upper Darby Ed Brown, Mayor Upper Darby Township and elected officials from Delaware County and Philadelphia.
