A reminder as we see some elevated Fire Weather concerns this week due to hot temperatures, gusty winds, and low relative humidity - any spark, man-made or natural, may cause a fire to start. Do your part to help prevent wildfires starting along our roadways by practicing safe towing and keeping your vehicle properly maintained!

Fentanyl Awareness Day is a hard but important reminder for everyone. This isn’t just a big city issue. It’s here, it’s in Montana, and it’s impacting communities just like Butte.

April 29 is recognized as National Fentanyl Awareness Day, a day to raise awareness and take action to prevent fentanyl-related harm. The DEA continues to warn that fentanyl is the leading cause of drug overdose deaths in the United States, and that many counterfeit pills are made to look like real medications but can contain deadly amounts of fentanyl.

Fentanyl affects people of all ages, and that’s what makes awareness and prevention so important. Honest conversations, strong connections, and looking out for one another can make a real difference.

As parents, caregivers, and neighbors, we don’t have to have all the answers. But we do need to have the conversations. Talking with our kids early, staying curious instead of judgmental, and making sure they know they can come to us about anything matters.

One pill can change everything. Many people don’t realize that fentanyl is showing up in substances they think are something else. That’s what makes this so dangerous.

Today is about awareness, but it’s also about connection. Check in with your kids. Check in with each other. Look out for your neighbor’s kid like you would your own.

Butte Cares is here for our community. We provide prevention education, resources, and presentations for families, schools, and community groups who want to better understand fentanyl and how to keep people safe. If you’re ready to bring this conversation into your home, classroom, or organization, reach out to us. We’re here to help.

You’re not alone. Additional support is available through local resources like the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department, Blacktail Health, Intermountain Health, and other agencies.

We’re in this together, Butte. And together is how we keep our community safe.
