Disorderly Subject: Threatening / Battery to Peace Officer Arrest

Du Quoin, Illinois — On March 29, 2026, at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers with the Du Quoin Police Department were dispatched to the Shell Convenience Store on Main Street for a report of an intoxicated individual on the property.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to identify the subject. This subject refused officers commands. Officers were later able to identify Coy A. Davis as the suspect. During the encounter, Davis became agitated and began to make threatening remarks towards officers. As officers attempted to continue their investigation, Davis became increasingly aggressive. During this time, Davis struck an officer.

Davis was subsequently taken into custody and placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, Threatening Public Official, and Resiting/Obstruction. Davis was transported to the Perry County Jail, and released into the custody of jail staff.

Davis was issued the following citations:

Aggravated Battery - Peace Officer
Threatening Public Official
Resisting/Obstructing

Methamphetamine Arrest

Du Quoin, Illinois — On March 26, 2026, at approximately 5:49 p.m., an officer with the Du Quoin Police Department was on routine patrol when the officer observed a lawnmower broken down in the roadway.

The operator was identified as Brian L. Wardwell. During the encounter, officers learned that Wardwell had an active Perry County warrant for his arrest. Wardwell was taken into custody.

Following a search of Wardwell, officers located contraband. Wardwell was placed under arrest for Driving while License Suspended, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Wardwell was transported to the Perry County Jail, where he was released into the custody of jail staff.

Wardwell was issued the following citations:
Driving while License Suspended
Possession of Methamphetamine
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
