Today, we celebrate all the fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, father figures, and mentors who lead with strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication.

A special thank you goes out to the dads serving in law enforcement, fire, EMS, the military, and all those who spend holidays away from their families while protecting ours. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed. 🫶🏻

Congratulations to Sgt. Ruh! 👏🎓

Today, we proudly congratulate Sergeant Ruh on graduating from the Supervisors Training and Education Program (STEP) through the Ohio Law Enforcement Foundation!

STEP is one of Ohio’s premier leadership development programs for newly promoted and aspiring first-line supervisors. The program challenges participants through intensive training in leadership, ethics, communication, decision-making, officer wellness, conflict management, critical incident response, and developing the next generation of law enforcement professionals.

Sgt. Ruh’s dedication to continuing education and professional development reflects our commitment to providing the highest level of service to the Perry Township community. We are proud of this accomplishment and look forward to the leadership and knowledge he will continue to bring to our department.

🚴‍♂️ E-Bike Safety Starts at Home 🚴‍♀️

E-bikes have become increasingly popular, especially among young riders. While they can be a fun and convenient way to get around, they also travel much faster than traditional bicycles and require riders to make quick, safe decisions around vehicle traffic.

Before your child heads out on an e-bike, ask yourself these five questions:

✅ Can they confidently ride a bicycle and maintain control at higher speeds?

✅ Do they understand and follow traffic signs and signals?

✅ Do they know how to safely cross intersections and enter roadways?

✅ Will they wear a properly fitted helmet every ride?

✅ Do they understand that drivers may not always see them?

Our officers have received concerns from residents about close calls involving e-bike riders and motor vehicles. We want everyone—drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians—to get where they're going safely.

Parents play a critical role in teaching safe riding habits. A few minutes of instruction today could prevent a serious crash tomorrow.

Let's work together to keep Perry Township's roads and neighborhoods safe for everyone.

🔒 Lock It or Lose It: A Reminder for Perry Township Residents

Last night, several vehicles in the Brookside area were entered, and valuables left inside were stolen. In each case, the vehicles were reportedly left unlocked.

As summer arrives, many of us are on the go—attending events, traveling, enjoying parks, and spending more time outdoors. Unfortunately, this can also create opportunities for criminals looking for easy targets.

Please help protect yourself by following these simple tips:

✅ Lock your vehicle every time you leave it, even if you’re only gone for a few minutes.
✅ Remove valuables from plain sight, including wallets, purses, electronics, cash, and fi****ms.
✅ Take garage door openers, keys, and important documents with you when possible.
✅ Report suspicious activity immediately.

Most vehicle break-ins are crimes of opportunity. A locked vehicle with no visible valuables is far less likely to be targeted.

Let’s work together to keep our neighborhoods safe this summer.

🌳 Storm Cleanup Update for Worthington Hills and Brookside Residents 🌳

Perry Township Police and Road Crew personnel are aware of the downed tree limbs and storm debris throughout the Worthington Hills and Brookside area following yesterday’s storm.

Our officers, including the Drone Team, have been assessing conditions and documenting locations that need attention.

We appreciate everyone’s patience. In the meantime:

✅ Use caution when traveling near downed limbs and debris.
✅ Do not attempt to move large limbs that may be under tension or entangled with utility lines.
✅ If you encounter a roadway obstruction creating an immediate hazard, please contact dispatch.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to keep Perry Township safe and accessible for everyone.

Today, Cadet Haley spent part of her internship showing her cousins some of the behind-the-scenes experiences that come with being a member of our Cadet Program. From checking out a patrol vehicle to learning about police equipment (and even trying on a pair of handcuffs!), it was a fun opportunity to give them a glimpse into the world of public service.

Haley is currently studying Criminology and Criminal Justice. She chose to join the Cadet Program at Perry Township during her senior year of high school. Throughout her internship, she has been gaining valuable hands-on experience while learning from our officers and staff. Next year she hopes to join the ranks of the Columbus Division of Police! 👮🏻

Today’s ride-along was with Sgt. Delbert, one of our outstanding part-time officers. When he’s not patrolling the streets of Perry Township, you can find him at L.E.P.D. Fi****ms and Range, helping others develop safe and responsible fi****ms skills. You may also recognize his voice from the airwaves as host of the Saturday morning radio program OnTarget!

We’re proud of Haley’s dedication to her education and future career in public safety, and we’re grateful for mentors like Sgt. Delbert who help inspire the next generation of law enforcement professionals.

Today’s Time Capsule takes us back to June 6, 1945, and one of the earliest known photographs of the Washington and Perry Township Fire Department alongside the Dublin Volunteer Fire Department.

Washington and Perry Township Fire Department was originally formed in 1937. Pictured in this historic photograph are the department’s first and second fire apparatus:
🚒 A 1937 REO Seagrave
🚒 A 1942 Ford Sutphen

The firehouse shown in the photo stood at 37 West Bridge Street in Dublin during the early 1940s, and the building was still standing decades later. Also pictured are three township trustees who helped support the early growth of fire protection in our community.

From humble beginnings and small stations to the modern emergency services we know today, this photo is a reminder of the dedication and community spirit that built the foundation for public safety in Perry Township and beyond.
