This picture was taken at the intersection of East Madison and South Franklin, looking west. The year is 1913, without a doubt, because: 1) The Skyscraper is completed and 2) The lamp stands on the Old Post office are square. They were rounded off to their present shape by the Federal Government in January of 1914. The big building west of the Old Post office was known as the Burch Building.

Circa 1917-1925. I wish I could have a conversation with everyone who has ever been here. This beautiful woman's identity is not known. Her family, named King, lived on the eastern end of Bellevue for a short time in the 20s. They left a scrapbook with no pictures identified that wound up in the possession of Scott Thompson.

"I feel that you will agree with me that no specimens of good architecture in the country are better fitted to exert a beneficial influence upon the general development of our building than these post-office buildings of the less important classes placed in the smaller cities where they are often the most important structures in their neighborhoods, so that they stand as examples of what we should like to see done by the cities and by the citizens themselves."
