Update for Monday. Our #1 priority continues to be life safety and medical care. As of this morning, all nursing homes in Dublin were on stable power sources. This afternoon, volunteer teams coordinated with the City to do safety checks and food delivery to seniors living in senior apartments in Dublin. Please continue to check on your neighbors, because relief is going to take all of us working together.
WIth only one water plant operating, we are still under water conservation. Please hold your laundry until our second plant is operational. No landscape irrigation and use water for essentials only. Car washes and laundromats remain closed in Dublin.
Today, linemen from Georgia Power and Alabama Power used boats to access the Oconee River pumps and power poles that were damaged in the storm. I appreciate them going the extra mile, and we are hopeful to get the Oconee River plant back up and running in the near future.
Georgia Power indicates that Dublin should be almost 95% restored power by Wednesday evening. As they work towards this goal, the City continues to coordinate with churches to provide food to neighborhoods without power. Also, Oconee gym and Stubbs gym will be open tomorrow from 4:30 to 8:30 for air conditioning, charging stations, and youth free play.

Several people have asked about FEMA relief. Last Thursday morning at 11 am (before the hurricane arrived), I signed a Declaration of Local Emergency for Dublin, as did the Governor for the State of Georgia and County leadership for Laurens County. These actions activated the local emergency operations plan and opened us up to FEMA resources, such as generators and supplies.
Governor Kemp has now requested President Biden to declare Laurens County a "Major Disaster" area, which will open up financial relief directly to residents. The White House hasn't acted on that request yet, but we hope it comes through soon. The local Dublin Laurens County Emergency Management Agency will keep everyone updated on any details when that happens.
I spoke with Chief Moon this afternoon and he has approximately 20 officers on active patrol duty at all times and is bringing in an additional 4 for checking on locations without power tonight. There will be zero toleration for criminal mischief in Dublin.
All day long, the Dublin Laurens County Emergency Management Agency team has been receiving offers of help from volunteers, churches, and businesses. There's a lot of people struggling with lack of shelter, water, and reliable food sources -- The strength of a community is not primarily in its government but in its people, so please keep up the good works!
