A Cell phone was turned into our department. Phone was found on Armstrong Street in Dublin. If you have lost your phone and think it may be yours, please contact our office at 540-674-5167. One will need to bring a copy of their ID and provide a description of the phone and prove ownership.

In honor of Deputy Logan Utt of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, who was tragically killed in the line of duty, our flag is being flown at half-staff.

Words cannot adequately express the sorrow our department feels for this tremendous loss. Deputy Utt will be remembered for his service, dedication, and sacrifice, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, fellow deputies, friends, and the entire Carroll County community during this difficult time.

Our condolences are with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the families of the officers involved in the tragic shooting that took place last night.

Our department is heartbroken to learn that one deputy lost their life in the line of duty, while another was injured and is expected to recover. Please join us in praying for both officers’ families, the members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and the entire community affected by this devastating event.

The law enforcement family stands together during times like these, and we mourn alongside all those impacted by this tragedy.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At approximately 9:26 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a request from a family member to conduct a welfare check at 13658 Fancy Gap Highway.

Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the residence. Upon arrival, two deputies made contact with a male subject identified as Michael Puckett. During the encounter, Puckett opened fire on the responding deputies. Deputies returned fire.

Both deputies were struck by gunfire. One deputy sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second deputy was struck in his ballistic vest and is currently receiving medical evaluation and is reported to be in stable condition.

Michael Puckett fled the scene and remains at large. A coordinated law enforcement search is currently underway.

Puckett should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone who sees him or has information regarding his whereabouts is urged not to approach him and to immediately call 911.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
