🔥 Update: South Georgia Burn Restrictions Eased

Governor Kemp has issued an executive order easing outdoor burning restrictions in parts of South Georgia.

While this is a step in the right direction, burning is still restricted in 17 South Georgia counties, as shown on the map below. These areas continue to face extreme drought and elevated wildfire risk.

⚠️ What to know:
➡️ Some counties are now allowed to resume limited outdoor burning
➡️ Others remain under restrictions due to ongoing fire danger
➡️ Conditions can change quickly—always check before you burn

Even where restrictions have been eased, extreme caution is still critical. Dry conditions remain across much of the state, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

📲 Get the full details + see if your county is affected:

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help reduce wildfire risk across Georgia.

Fighting fire. Protecting forests. Serving Georgia.

🚫🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥🚫

Laurens County Fire Department

Due to exceptional drought conditions in our area, the Georgia Forestry Commission has issued a burn ban in 91 counties, including Laurens County. The existing drought conditions have left vegetation extremely dry, creating an environment where a small spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving, uncontrollable fire within minutes.
🚨 What does this mean for EVERYONE:
❌ All outdoor burning is prohibited — including, but not limited to:
• No yard debris or leaf burning
• No burn barrels or trash burning
• No land clearing or agricultural burns
• No campfires, bonfires, or fire pits
• Avoid grilling over dry grass or near wooded areas
• Do not discard ci******es on the ground
• No fireworks
• Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass (hot exhaust can ignite fires)

🔥 Important Reminder:
Even activities that seem safe can become dangerous under these conditions
We ask everyone to do their part by following this ban and helping prevent unnecessary emergencies.
If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.
Stay safe. Stay aware. 🚒

🚨 HIGH FIRE DANGER ALERT 🚨

Our area is currently experiencing very low humidity and elevated fire conditions, creating a high risk for rapid fire spread. These conditions make it extremely difficult to safely control outdoor fires.

🔥 At this time, outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Even small fires can quickly get out of control and threaten homes, property, and lives.

🚫 The Georgia Forestry Commission has suspended all burn permits through Monday, March 30th. No outdoor burning should take place during this period.

We urge everyone to take this seriously:
• Do not burn yard debris or trash
• Avoid activities that could create sparks
• Properly dispose of ci******es
• Report any signs of fire immediately

Your cooperation is critical in helping protect our community, our firefighters, and our natural resources.

Stay safe and help prevent wildfires.
