We have an important update for the residents of Cambridge City following the devastating flooding that has impacted our community.

President Donald Trump has signed a federal disaster declaration making several communities across Indiana eligible for federal disaster assistance. Wayne County, including Cambridge City, is included in that declaration.

This means residents who suffered damage from the flooding may now apply for assistance through FEMA.

The helpline is currently available 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 7 days a week.

The Town of Cambridge City is also working to organize an assistance center for residents who do not have access to the internet, a computer, or reliable phone service and need help completing their application. We will share the location and times of the resource once it becomes available.

We want to be upfront with everyone. We do not know exactly how this process will pan out.

This is an unprecedented situation for our community, and we are learning many parts of this process alongside you. We know there are a lot of questions, and in many cases, we may not have all of the answers yet.

We ask for your patience.

What we can promise is that we are doing everything we can to position Cambridge City and our residents for the best possible outcome. We will continue gathering information, working with state and federal partners, and sharing updates as they become available.

The next big hurdle will be passing the water test that gets sent out on Thursday. The boil advisory does NOT apply to those customers on the system that supplies the industrial park and businesses near the interstate, as they are separate systems.

Debris cleanup continues in town, with dumpsters beside the town garage open from 7 AM
till 4 PM. Construction debris can still also be taken to the Hagerstown transfer station during their hours. There has been a lot of headway made on clearing debris from the curbsides. We should be coming to the end of the line on our dumpster service once all of the curbside debris is cleared. Currently we expect to be open through this coming Saturday (8/29). We will review again later this week.

NOTE - ANTHING ON THE CURBSIDE WILL BE REMOVED AS DEBRIS UNLESS SIGNAGE IS IN PLACE TO LEAVE AS-IS.

The town is currently working with a structural engineer to check homes and businesses for structural damage that would be considered excessive. This should be used as a guideline for making decisions regarding your home and business. It is NOT an official condemnation or approval of the condition of your home. We have prioritized some homes that we are aware may be badly damaged. If you feel your home may be structurally unsound, please call the city building number (765-478-3522) and leave a message with your address and we can add it to the list.

Cambridge City Christian Church Aid station - Reminder that a number of supplies, including food, clothes, cleaning supplies, etc. are available for FLOOD VICTIMS ONLY at the Cambridge City Christian Church. Bottled water and some other supplies are also available for residents on the Boil Advisory. PLEASE do not take advantage of all the supplies at the church unless you are in need due to flood damage.

Cambridge City Water Update

As we continue to recover from the flooding, we want to provide an update on the current boil order.

Before the boil order can be lifted, the water supply must pass a series of required tests. At this time, we have not yet passed one of the required tests at the well. The well is currently being resanitized, and additional testing will be required afterward.

Based on the current timeline, it will likely be at least the end of next week (August 28, 2026) before the boil order can be lifted.

We understand the inconvenience this causes and appreciate everyoneโ€™s patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the water is safe before the order is lifted.

We will continue to provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
