Laurens Youth Leadership

Laurens Youth Leadership LYL is proud to not only prepare our students for their next step in life, but also allow them to gain a greater appreciation for their community.

Co-founded by Kathy Allgood and Ann Curry, Laurens Youth Leadership (LYL) focuses on developing the leadership skills of high school Sophomores and Juniors in the Dublin-Laurens community. Since 1999, over 500 students have graduated from LYL, leaving the program equipped with knowledge of leadership, business etiquette, professionalism, and personal finance, among many other topics.

COMMUNITY SERVICE #1

For the first time, Dublin is hosting Leadership Georgia!

Laurens Youth Leadership was asked to partner with Leadership Georgia for this year’s LYL community service project. These events, along with our regular participation with the Joint Civic Luncheon, will be LYL's community service project/events for 2026.

Discovery of Community - Part 2
Students (unknowingly) participated in a SimSoc. Students were divided into three groups alphabetically, by last name.

Group 1: Plated lunch with chicken tenders, green beans, mashed potatoes and sweet tea.

Group 2: Boxes of pizza and canned drinks.

Group 3: Rice and water.

Ms Beverly was the only one to give instructions and guidance. Everyone else simply observed.

Along the way, some were blessed with more favorable circumstances and moved groups; while others, life took a less than favorable turn and likewise moved groups.

Time after time, our students amaze me with their actions in this exercise. Some by breaking thru life’s barriers and others by being content and trying to make the best of whatever circumstances they’re given.

As always, Ms Beverly Tarver facilitated this portion beyond our expectations!

*No student left hungry.
