Laurens Youth Leadership

Laurens Youth Leadership LYL is proud to not only prepare our students for their next step in life, but also allow them to gain a greater appreciation for their community.

Co-founded by Kathy Allgood and Ann Curry, Laurens Youth Leadership (LYL) focuses on developing the leadership skills of high school Sophomores and Juniors in the Dublin-Laurens community. Since 1999, over 500 students have graduated from LYL, leaving the program equipped with knowledge of leadership, business etiquette, professionalism, and personal finance, among many other topics.

Calling all high school sophomores and juniors!
LYL applications are now available.

Below is the LYL application link in an interactive|web form version. Students are encouraged to complete the application electronically (computer, cell phone, etc). When finished, a "Submit" button will appear. Students can enter their e-mail address when submitting the application.

Our last two sessions were Tools for Success, sponsored by Bank of Dudley and Discovering Community, sponsored by Rotary Club of Dublin, Georgia, USA!

Both provide amazing tools as the students finished up their Laurens Youth Leadership program!

During tools for success, they are taught financial planning, thank you letter writing, interview skills and time management.

During Discovering Community, students are taken on a backstage tour of Downtown Dublin and presented with a panel of local leaders who answer those hard questions we all have (our students always bring up important topics during this discussion)!

Our second session of the year was our business, social and dining etiquette session! This is always a favorite session because Ms. Cindy Haygood makes learning these skills so much fun! During this session, our students are taught things like, proper way to shake hands, how to set a table (and when to use each item at one's place setting), and dancing (always a fun way to end the session)!

Our first session of the year was our Self Discovery session! Araina Reaves Torbett from Georgia EMC did an excellent job facilitating this session (as she does each year). During this session, our students are encouraged to dig deep to see their most dominant personality traits and how to use them in everyday life!

During our downtime in the summer, we always love to look back at the previous year and think about how grateful we are for the businesses and individuals that contribute to Laurens Youth Leadership! Over the next few weeks as we begin planning for our next group of students, we want to highlight those who generously give to this incredible organization. They provide a way for the youth of Laurens County to gain skills and connections that stay with them for the rest of their lives!

We have to take time and start at the very beginning - announcing the class of 2025-2026 and inviting them to join us at Orientation! Orientation is great way for our students from all four high schools to meet and get to know each other before their program starts. It is always so exciting to welcome our new group of students at this event!
