Training never stops.

Our goal is to keep our community and officers safe. To help achieve this goal, DPD officers regularly train to improve communication, decision-making, and response skills under pressure.

From recertifications to scenario-based training, these exercises help prepare officers for the unpredictable situations they may face in the field.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at some of that training.

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we would like to remind everybody to do their part in keeping our roads and yourselves safe. Slow down, use a sober driver, and buckle up! In 2025, 121 people who died in Iowa traffic crashes were not wearing a seatbelt. That is nearly half of all traffic fatalities in the state. We hope everybody has a fun and SAFE holiday weekend!

October 1, 1962: President John F. Kennedy signed a bill into law proclaiming May 15 of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which this date falls as Police Week. This day was established to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to express our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines in the battle against crime.

The Dubuque Police Department, Dubuque County Sheriff's Office, and all other law enforcement agencies in our area are fortunate and blessed to have dedicated chaplains who support our officers. Today, these chaplains organized a service to honor all current and former law enforcement officers who have dedicated themselves to serving their communities.

On this day, when we as law enforcement officers receive gratitude, we would also like to thank our wonderful community for its continued support as we work every day to protect and serve you.

Officers with our Domestic Crime Unit recently organized a clothing drive at the Dubuque Police Department to benefit The Open Closet!

Thanks to the generosity of our department members, five carloads of clothing and essential items were collected and delivered.

The Open Closet is a free, retail-style space open to the entire community, providing clothing, shoes, hygiene items, and more with dignity and respect. During the delivery, the ladies also learned more about the Almost Home Guest House, which provides housing and support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Both organizations do incredible work and rely on volunteers and donations to continue serving those in need.

We happy to have had the opportunity to partner in this effort and thankful to everyone who contributed!
