The Dubuque County Democratic Party supports economic development that is environmentally responsible, economically sustainable, and protective of our land, water and air resources. Because large-scale data centers consume significant amounts of water and energy while potentially straining local infrastructure and natural resources, we oppose their development in Dubuque County unless it can be demonstrated that they will not negatively impact our environment, agricultural heritage, or long-term sustainability goals. We believe growth should create opportunity while preserving the quality of life and natural resources that future generations depend upon. The Dubuque County Supervisors will hold a special meeting on Tuesday May 26, 2026 at 3:30 pm at the Dubuque County Courthouse, 720 Central Ave. There will be a limited time for public comment due to the courthouse closing at 4:30 pm. This meeting could result in a vote for a one year moratorium on data centers in Dubuque County.
