Bridge to Reading The Bridge to Reading Picture Book Award promotes early literacy and education. Sponsored by YSS.

The Bridge to Reading Picture Book Award is designed to promote reading & early literacy skills with young children. This award is announced annually in October, given to an excellent read-aloud book for early education. The nominated books are selected by youth and school librarians in Iowa and the winner is voted on by Iowan children and early education teachers and caregivers. It is funded by the Iowa Library Association's Youth Services Subdivision.

Announcing this year’s list of titles nominated for the annual Bridge to Reading Picture Book Award! Voting will be open from May 1-July 31, but you can start reading these amazing titles today!

As a reminder, the purpose of the Bridge to Reading Picture Book Award is:
📚 To encourage language development and pre-reading skills through reading aloud.
📚 To provide parents and caregivers with a selection of quality picture books to read aloud to young children.
📚 To introduce children to a variety of authors and illustrators of children’s books.
📚 To celebrate reading as a community.
📚 To offer children ample opportunities to listen and respond to quality literature.
📚 To promote awareness of the importance of reading aloud to children and the early literacy skills gained
