🐦🌿 Wildlife Wednesday: Meet the Crow 🌿🐦
This Wildlife Wednesday, we’re taking a closer look at one of nature’s smartest birds, the crow!
Crows belong to the corvid family, which also includes ravens, magpies, and jays. Scientists consider corvids among the most intelligent birds in the world. Studies have shown that crows can solve complex puzzles, use tools, recognize individual human faces, and even teach their young where to find food and avoid danger.
These highly social birds often live and travel in family groups. Young crows may stay with their parents for several years, helping raise younger siblings before starting families of their own.
Crows are omnivores, meaning they eat a wide variety of foods including insects, seeds, fruits, small animals, and carrion. Their flexible diet helps them thrive in many different habitats, from forests and grasslands to towns and cities.
You can often spot crows around the park year-round. Listen for their familiar “caw-caw” calls and watch for their acrobatic flight patterns as they soar and glide overhead.
The next time you see a crow, remember: you may be looking at one of the most intelligent animals in North America!
