On Friday, Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue responded to a single-vehicle rollover after a vehicle left the highway, struck a juniper tree, and rolled.

Despite significant damage to the vehicle, including extensive damage to the engine and drivetrain and deployment of the airbags, the driver sustained only a minor injury from the seatbelt. He was able to self-extricate from the vehicle along with his 12-year-old dog before crews arrived.

When CMFR personnel arrived, the vehicle was resting on its side and leaking fluids. Crews assisted both the driver and his dog safely away from the vehicle and deployed a charged hose line as a precaution due to the leaking fluids and potential fire risk.

Firefighters also gained access to the vehicle through the windshield and located and cut multiple power cables to further reduce the risk of fire.

We’re grateful this incident had a good outcome for both the driver and his four-legged passenger. 🐾

This incident is also a great reminder of just how important seatbelts are. Conditions on mountain highways can change quickly, and unexpected hazards can arise with little warning. Stay alert, buckle up, and drive safely.

🌧️ Rain on Cedar Mountain — Please Slow Down! 🌧️

Rainy weather can create rapidly changing road conditions across Cedar Mountain. If you’re traveling on SR-14 or other mountain roads, please use extra caution.

🚗 Slow down and increase your following distance
💡 Turn on your headlights and make yourself visible
💦 Watch for standing or moving water across the roadway
🪨 Be alert for rocks, mud, branches, and other debris
⚠️ Use extra caution around curves and areas with limited visibility
📵 Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road
🌊 Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. Turn around, don’t drown.

Heavy rain can cause runoff and debris to cross roads with little warning, and conditions can change quickly from one area of the mountain to another.

Give yourself extra time, drive for the conditions, and help keep yourself — and our responders — safe.

Yesterday, Engine 75 responded to an initial attack on the Mustang Fire, located near the Kearny Fire where the crew had been assigned the previous day.

Engine 75 worked to establish saw line around the fire’s perimeter before securing the edge approximately 10 feet in to help reduce the potential for further spread.

Another solid day of wildland operations for Engine 75 and our Cedar Mountain crew. 🔥🌲

On August 20, Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported injury accident. While responding, crews were advised that the patient was being transported by private vehicle to Station 1 on Mammoth Creek Road.

Upon arrival at the station, the patient was found to be in critical condition. Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue paramedics initiated emergency medical care. Due to the unavailability of air medical resources at the time, the patient was transported by ground ambulance to the emergency department at Cedar City Hospital, where care was transferred to hospital staff.

Out of respect for patient privacy, Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue is unable to provide additional information regarding the patient’s condition or medical care.
