Duke Fire Board meeting tonight at firehouse at 7 pm. Still looking for a Treasurer and Secretary to take over in April 2025. Consider getting involved. It doesn't take to much time. Usually only 1 meeting a month. Of course there is also a need for volunteer firefighters also.

Hopefully many in the community have noticed the new fire building going up! It will be housing several trucks. DFPD received a MRPC grant. There will be a "ribbon cutting" later this summer.

Also, the DFPD board will have several positions open come April 2025. Two director positions will be available. Also a treasurer and secretary positions will be open. The positions can also be elected directors. Interested persons can attend a board meeting to see what the treasurer, secretary, and directors duties are. Board meetings are the 3rd Mondays of each month. Please consider getting involved. It does not take too much time per month.

Also consider being a volunteer firefighter. DFPD usually does not get more than a few call outs for service a month.

Check your voter registration. Some people have moved in or out of the area. If kids have moved out, they might have changed their voting location. Municipal Voting April 6. All voters in Phelps County will be voting on Phelps Health Board board member. Some Edgar Springs area people will be voting on Mayor, North or South Alderman, and Edgar Springs Rural Fire District. Others will be only voting for Edgar Springs Fire. Some for Fire issue and Newburg School board. Some on the south side of the county will be voting for Licking School Board. Some on west side of precinct will vote on Newburg School District and Doolittle Fire Protection District proposition., while some will only have the Doolittle proposition.
Edgar Springs School Board does not have an election, nor does Duke Fire Protection District Board. Those in Duke area will only be voting on Phelps Health Board.
Hope this makes sense. The Edgar Springs precinct will have 9 ballot types, some with write-ins. Anyone can check out the ballots at the Phelps County Clerk webpage. If you are not sure if you have anything to vote on besides the Health Board, come to the polls to see.

Due to the ongoing increases in Covid-19 cases in Missouri and the counties of Texas, Phelps, and Pulaski, the boards of both the Duke Auxiliary and the Duke Fire Protection District have decided NOT to hold the annual deer season fish fry. Normally it would be held November 14, 2020. Maybe one will be held in the Spring and hopefully it can be held in November 2021. Please share this information with your Duke neighbors. Thank you. KJ

The board of the Duke Fire Protection District needs an additional director to finish out a 9 month term and to consider a 6 year term starting April 2021. Please consider. It is not a difficult position. Show up for monthly meetings and have some input. Let Kathy Jones know if you are interested or want more information.

Kathy Jones here. Hey neighbors, Friday night a dog showed up at our house. I don't know if it was just dropped off or lost. If any one wants to claim him or wants him, come get him. He is probably less than a year old, white with tan areas, bobbed tail, at least one blue eye. He is cute, seems calm, seems friendly. We haven't fed him or touched him since he showed up. We can not keep him.

Thank you for all that turned out for the Fish Fry. Thank you Ron W for all the set up of table and chairs. Thank you to Randall L and Bill L for all the frying of fish, fries, and hush-puppies. Thank you Tanya and Michelle for the food set-up, serving, and clean-up. John C won the rifle and 4-J Pig Piney Horse Camp won 2nd prize. Thank you for all that bought tickets.

I know there are quite a few choices of fish dinners available tonight, but I hope everyone in Duke will choose the Duke Auxiliary's from 5 to 7 this evening. Hooe to see you there.
