Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council Planning for all modes of transportation in and around the Twin Ports MPOs exist across the United States for population areas over 50,000.

The MIC is the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Duluth-Superior area, including Hermantown, Proctor and surrounding townships on both sides of the bridge. MPOs ensure that transportation infrastructure investments are planned cooperatively by all local jurisdictions (city, county, state and townships).

Meet our Eco Counter WAVix AI Multi Modal Counter! It's currently installed at N. 28th St. and Wyoming Ave in Superior, to collect baseline traffic data before the Blatnik Bridge replacement project begins.

This device uses radar and AI to tell whether something moving past it is a person walking, someone on a bike, or a vehicle. It DOES NOT use a camera and DOES NOT collect any personal information, such as faces or license plates.

We use it to learn how many people use a road and how they travel. This helps us plan future projects and anticipate changes that may occur during and after construction.

This is only our second installation, so look for it in the future at new locations around town.

Early Comments Make the Biggest Difference!
Transportation projects can be big, expensive, and time-sensitive -- which means we're working now to line up new projects in the Duluth area to receive 2030 federal funding.

What are your thoughts about the projects in the 2027-2030 Transportation Improvement Program?
