Looking forward to ricing season!!!
1854 is out conducting wild rice fieldwork and checking on conditions across the ceded territory. There's no time like the present to gather your gear for harvesting: Any maintenance needed to your push pole? Got those new rice knocking sticks sanded down? Your canoe need any patching? Don't wait until the last minute...

Forest wide Campfire Use Notice

Wildfires and drying conditions across northern Minnesota prompts campfire restrictions in coordination with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources

Due to continued dry conditions and wildfires, the Superior National Forest is issuing an Emergency Forest Order for forest wide campfire restrictions effective July 12, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.

This Order restricts the ignition, building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire, including charcoal grills and barbeques, coal, and woodburning stoves to reduce the likelihood of a wildfire within the Superior National Forest boundary, which includes northern portions of Cook, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis Counties.

This new Forest Order 09-09-00-26-09 increases the restricted area to include all land within the Forest Boundary. See forest’s Alerts page https://www.fs.usda.gov/r09/superior/alerts
Forest wide campfire restrictions go into effect beginning Sunday morning (12:01) a.m., July 12, 2026, through October 1, or until conditions warrant a rescission.

• Gas or propane cook stoves are allowed throughout the forest and in the BWCAW.

• Stoves or grills fueled by charcoal, or any type of wood are not allowed.

All are invited to join the AICHO Ojibwe Online Language Table for our weekly gatherings on zoom, every Monday evening starting July 13th, 2026.
There are two sessions of the Ojibwe language table practice on Monday evenings: Beginner and Intermediate. All are welcome to attend whichever session you are interested in. All of our weekly practice is geared towards building our confidence and ability to converse together in the language.
Come ready to speak and sound our voices together!
AICHO's language table facilitator is Ricky DeFoe, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribal Member and Language Instructor. He has been leading the language table once a week for seven years at AICHO and now continues these cultural/spiritual language lessons on Zoom.
Our language table helper is Dené Sinclair, Peguis Band Member from Manitoba Canada and Anishinaabemowin language learner.
The language table is a safe, community space where we come together as learners to speak, listen and talk together, practicing Anishinaabemowin conversations. All dialects, peoples and skill levels are welcome!
