The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States. Twin Ports DSA is based in Duluth, and welcomes all members from northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. DSA is NOT a political party, but a big-tent political organization that operates from the bottom up. We provide a political home for people who share similar values, particularly those

whom are part of Bernie Sanders' political revolution. We provide an open opportunity to dig deep into policy issues such as health care, develop positions, and share our understanding with the broader community. DSA's mission and shared vision is a humane international social order based on equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships. Equality, solidarity and democracy can only be achieved through international political and social cooperation ensuring that economic institutions benefit all people.

Thank you to everyone who came out to Duluth’s Juneteenth celebration yesterday despite the rain and made some buttons with us! It’s important to remember that Juneteenth is this country’s only national holiday celebrating the emancipation of enslaved people and it only became a national holiday FIVE YEARS AGO. Not only has our government refused to acknowledge how important emancipation is to communities across the nation, but it also refuses to actually abolish slavery. The 13th amendment includes an exception, where slavery is STILL federally legal “as a punishment for a crime.” This exception has been used to continually enslave incarcerated Black Americans through criminalization of unemployment, over policing of Black neighborhoods, and the war on drugs. The fight against slavery didn’t end with the Civil War, it’s a fight that’s still going on today. Get organized in your community to help build a truly just world for all.

While some enslaved people did not know about Lincoln's order, many learned of it while the fighting was still ongoing through informal networks, rumors and sometimes from slaveholders themselves.

"It is the latest sign of the influential Democratic Socialists of America expanding its reach in the wake of last year's election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City. Across the country, there are signs that more candidates are identifying as democratic socialists or aligning themselves with the DSA's platform, as the far-left organization's membership grows."

The outcome in Washington, D.C. reinforces a breakout year for democratic socialists, but could put the city in Trump's crosshairs

A one-year moratorium on data centers is now in effect in Superior, while the city's planning commission studies the matter.

"These indictments should concern everyone. The charging documents do not focus solely on specific actions by specific individuals. They repeatedly reference “coordination,” “communication,” and “collective efforts” to interfere with ICE operations and prevent the enforcement of federal immigration policy. Taken at face value, the logic of these indictments could potentially implicate thousands of people across the Twin Cities who participated in rapid response networks, immigrant defense efforts, school patrols, demonstrations, and other forms of collective action.

For that reason, these prosecutions must be viewed not simply as cases against fifteen individuals, but as an attack on the broader movement that emerged to defend immigrant communities and resist authoritarian policies. If the government succeeds in establishing that organizing, coordinating, and mobilizing communities in defense of their neighbors can be treated as criminal conduct, the implications will extend far beyond these defendants."

The recent federal indictments of fifteen Minnesota activists must be understood for what they are: a serious escalation in the government’s effort to criminalize resistance to ICE operation, intimidate those who have stood up in defense of their communities, and to attack our basic right to organ...
