Volunteer opportunity with the St. Louis River Alliance!

Volunteer opportunity! Join us at the Wisconsin Point Bird Sanctuary on August 6th from 3:00-6:00pm. During this volunteer maintenance day, we will be handling unwanted vegetation within targeted areas. If the wind and weather cooperates, we will be managing the invasives by burning them on site.

Participants are encouraged to email Mikayla, at [email protected] if they are interested in helping so we have enough tools to go around. Gloves, buckets, shovels, and contracting bags will be provided. Please feel free bring your own equipment/materials if you have them.

Additional Dates: Friday August 7th, Monday August 10th.

Have fun and be safe this Fourth of July! 🙌 If fireworks are not disposed of properly they could cause fires and pollute the surrounding environment and waterways.🔥😱

⭐ For safe and proper disposal of fireworks follow Resource Renew's guidelines listed below!

➡ USED FIREWORKS:
#1. Cool it down: Let your fireworks sit overnight to make sure they're completely cool. 🥶
#2. Soak it up: Place them in a bucket of water for at least 24 hours. This neutralizes any remaining active materials. 🌊
#3. Trash it: Once soaked, throw them away in a sealed plastic bag inside your trash can. 👍

➡ UNUSED OR DUD FIREWORKS:
Safety first! 😄 Resource Renew's Household Hazardous Waste Facility accepts amateur/dud fireworks from Minnesota and City of Superior, WI residents. 🙌 Professional display fireworks are not accepted.

⭐ Remember: Transport these flammable items in a separate box away from open flames, sparks, or other flammables.

Household Hazardous Waste Facility:
Address: 2626 Courtland Street, Duluth, MN
Open: Thursday-Saturday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. The facility will be closed Saturday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

Have fun and stay safe celebrating the 4th!

Fireworks are a blast, but before you toss those leftovers in the trash, make sure you know how to dispose of them properly!

🌿🪻 This year, Lawns to Legumes does not have funding to do a fall round of grants. They are trying out a free educational program folks can sign up for called Lawns to Legumes: Habitat at Home (https://bluethumb.org/lawns-to-legumes/habitat-at-home/) 🙌😁

🌞 Learn more about the Habitat to Home below!

You’re not doing this alone. 🌿

Lawns to Legumes: Habitat at Home is a free, guided program from Blue Thumb that connects you with the tools, knowledge, and community support you need to create pollinator habitat at home.

Throughout the program, you’ll tap into a network of partners, educators, and organizations from across Minnesota. We’ll share webinars on topics like native plants and pollinator habitat, promote hands-on workshops and events, and connect you with trusted guides, tools, and local resources.

You’ll also be able to learn alongside other participants—sharing questions, progress, and inspiration as you go.

It’s everything you need to grow your knowledge—and your habitat.

Sign up to get connected: https://bluethumb.org/lawns-to-legumes/habitat-at-home/

Habitat at Home is offered through Lawns to Legumes, a collaborative state-funded effort administered by Blue Thumb and the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources.

🌞🪻🌿Awesome Upcoming Event: Carlton SWCD Pollinator Powerhouse! 🌿🪻🌞

🟢 WHEN: Friday, June 26 from 11 AM - 5 PM
🟢 LOCATION: Carlton County Transportation Building, 1630 County Rd 61, Carlton, MN 55718
🟢 WHAT: Plan to pick up your pre-ordered native plant and seed orders and hang out with us as we celebrate pollinators! 🙌 Even if you didn't pre-order, there will be opportunities to buy native plants in person. 👍

🤷‍♀️ Did you know?! Native plants have longer roots than turf grass (typically Kentucky Bluegrass). 💧 😱 These long roots direct stormwater into the soil, which reduces stormwater runoff from getting into our streams and Lake Superior! 🤩🌧️
