Showers and thunderstorms arrive to the Northland on Thursday. A few storms on Thursday afternoon and evening may become strong to severe, especially in east-central Minnesota into northwest Wisconsin. The primary severe hazard is anticipated to be large hail to 1" in diameter. Damaging winds to 60 mph and locally heavy rainfall are secondary hazards. Make sure to have a way to receive warnings and keep an eye on the forecast!

Early Thursday morning, rain shower and non-severe thunderstorm chances build first across northern MN and work eastward into later Thursday. Thursday afternoon/evening, a few strong thunderstorms are possible for the Brainerd Lakes to east-central MN and into far western WI. Friday sees a return of showers and non-severe thunderstorms.

Today will be pleasant with partly to mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the upper 60s to upper 70s. Isolated showers near the Brainerd Lakes early this morning will move east, with brief light rain showers possible. Expect chilly temps tonight, as lows drop as low as the upper 30s for interior portions of the Arrowhead. The next chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives on Thursday, tapering off on Friday.

While they have recently shown a weakening trend, isolated strong to severe storms remain possible for the next 1 to 2 hours. The main threats are damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to 1 inch in diameter, mainly in the Brainerd Lakes area. Keep an eye to the sky this afternoon/evening!

Thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon into this evening and overnight as a cold front approaches the area. While most will see general storms, some in northeast Minnesota could see a few strong to severe storms with damaging winds and large hail. Most will see a quarter inch or less of rainfall from these storms.
