New neighbors, old neighbors…we love ‘em all.

This past week, we invited immigrant and refugee families as well as community members and the *only* immigration lawyers in Duluth to an intentional conversation around what’s happening in the Northland and how to connect to resources as well as each other. We dined over Rumbi’s mouthwatering home cooking and found solace in the connections that were made.

An extra special thanks to Gabe and Joel from Justice North and the folks from Chum who showcase the impact community collaboration has on uplifting the most vulnerable members in our area.

If you are an immigrant or refugee, or know someone who is, and you need help with financial assistance or navigating legal issues, please reach out to [email protected] 🧡

Want to help your neighbors but don’t know what to do?

By donating to the New Neighbors mutual aid fund, you are supporting families in the Northland that have been affected by the chaotic and dangerous tactics ICE has utilized in our region since Operation Metro Surge.

Thank you to all of the donors so far. You are good neighbors 🧡

✌️🧡☺️

Want to help us uplift the stories of why immigrants in our community need our help?

Do you think it would be groovy to pass the Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment, the most inclusive ERA proposed for a state constitution?

Does it bring you down to know that parents and children in Duluth don’t all have access to safe, quality childcare because of the broken system it’s set up in?

You can make a difference!

We are looking for 25 sustaining donors of $10/month or more during our Summer of Love campaign to support our work towards equality for all. We are set up to advocate for those who need us most and organize around our community’s most pressing issues.

Happy Juneteenth ❤️🖤💚

Even though the Emancipation Proclamation deemed all African American slaves free on January 1, 1893, places under Confederate control delayed freedom for all until 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, TX on June 19, 1865 and freed 250,000 enslaved black people in the state.

Join us at the Juneteenth celebration put on by this afternoon. Being together in community is one of our favorite things!

Do you think joy, celebration and community are more important than ever? So does .me.coley, one of our 2026 Gender Joy artists.

Nicole joined the art show because “art has a unique ability to bring people together” and she “wanted to be part of an event that highlights joy not as an escape from the world, but as something worth cultivating and sharing”.

We couldn’t agree more 🧡

Nicole’s piece “Loving Figure is for sale on our website, https://www.ywcaduluth.org/2026-gender-joy-art-for-sale. Check out this piece, as well as all of the other artwork for sale, before the Gender Joy Art Show is done on June 27th. Clock is a-ticking!

We all naturally want freedom.

Today, in 1967, the Supreme Court agreed with Richard and Mildred Loving (and the ACLU) in Loving v. Virginia that “the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual, and cannot be infringed by the State”.

We agree with that too! Love who you want, be who you want, freedom to us all!!

Happy Loving Day 💞

I guess we’re not the only ones who want to promote art celebrating joy and exploring gender concepts…

Meet A.Geniusz_Art who entered her piece “Calm in Chaos: Zulu Parade Queen” to the 2026 Gender Joy Art Show. Annmarie entered this work after she returned to the Northland from her first Mardi Gras trip. After experiencing the Zulu Parade as well as the full celebration of Black arts and cultural heritage in the Treme neighborhood, Annmarie created this piece to help her stay centered during the horrors of metro surge.

Annmarie said that she felt compelled to enter this piece because “YWCA Duluth is an excellent organization, doing a lot of good things within our community” and that when she “saw that Black Joy was a sub-theme of the art show, I knew this piece would fit right in!”

This piece, as well as many others, are for sale on our website: https://www.ywcaduluth.org/2026-gender-joy-art-for-sale. 30% of the proceeds will support YWCA Duluth’s programs and initiatives. For more info, visit us at www.ywcaduluth.org 🧡
