Today marks a tragic global commemoration… ! It’s a sad truth that and often go hand in hand. According to Feeding America, 1 in 7 Georgians face hunger, and 1 in 5 children experience food insecurity. Unfortunately, the Atlanta Community Food Bank reports that 68% of people facing hunger are above the income threshold for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
One impactful way you can help is by supporting our local food banks, such as the Hamilton Mill UMC Pantry; the Duluth, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, North Gwinnett, and Southeast Gwinnett Co-ops; or Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries in Norcross. Many accept food and financial donations, and most can use the help of volunteers to sort and distribute food.
