You can get Here from There! Follow First Street from Downtown Duluth to Lincoln Park.

We were excited to see this demonstration wayfaring sign on First Street last Friday! As Downtown Duluth explores ways to grow in good ways, signage is an important way to build a connected Duluth.

It's not just having an arrow that's important, but also a sense of time. Here's a sneaky question: which Love Creamery is closer to City Hall, the one in Canal Park, or the one in Lincoln Park?

It's actually about the same time distance by bike! (About 10 minutes.)

Building this ability to navigate Duluth by foot or bike bike, including across regions, is critical to building a joyful, connected community. With a bit of artistry and good eye for isochronic maps, who knows what would be possible?

Right now, things are a bit of a mess with trying to walk or bike to Lincoln Park due to construction, but in the coming years we need easy, welcoming routes and signage to and from Lincoln Park and Downtown Duluth.

Heads up! The Garfield Ave/Piedmont Ave intersection closure on West Superior Street starts today and runs into August. Be sure to check VisitLNPK.com and westsuperiorstreet.com for the latest updates and detour routes.

The City of Duluth will close the intersection of West Superior Street and Garfield Avenue/Piedmont Avenue beginning Monday, July 27, 2026 as work continues on the West Superior Street reconstruction project. The project includes the complete reconstruction of West Superior Street, including the roadway and underground utilities, between Carlton Street and West Michigan Street.

West Superior Street remains closed to traffic between 18th Avenue West and West Michigan Street, except for local access to businesses from the west. West Michigan Street also remains closed at its intersection with West Superior Street. Access to the M&H Gas Station is available from the east (downtown) via West Michigan Street or from Glen Place Drive.

With this traffic change, the Cross City Trail will reopen along West Michigan Street, and the current trail detour will be removed. Construction will continue adjacent to the trail, and trail users will be directed through the work zone on an accessible surface.

A signed vehicle detour currently directs traffic along West First Street between Fifth Avenue West and 21st Avenue West. Traffic on Piedmont Avenue will follow this detour. Traffic on Garfield Avenue will be detoured along Railroad Street to Fifth Avenue West, where it will connect to the existing signed detour.

This phase of construction includes reconstruction of the West Superior Street and Garfield Avenue/Piedmont Avenue intersection. The intersection is expected to reopen in August. Construction for the 2026 season is anticipated to be complete in November. The overall project will be completed in three construction phases, with final project completion anticipated in 2028.

LPBG Business Highlight: Warrior Printress Letterpress & Design!

Warrior Printress Letter Press & Design is a full service design studio for all your custom letter press printing needs, Fiercely printing in the Duluth Pottery Building located right here in the heart of Lincoln Park! Their space is a beautiful combination of design/letter press work, prints, pottery, painting, and other various mediums of amazing local art. They strive to focus on works of activism, affirmation, inspiration, and collaboration at the intersection of art and business.

When discussing the origin of Warrior Printress, Janelle (Photo 1, left) detailed: “In 2011 I became interested (okay…possibly obsessed) with the early 2000s TV show, Xena Warrior Princess. The show was campy yet fierce, and didn’t take itself too seriously, a very appealing combination to me. The next thing I knew, I had purchased a ticket to XenaCon in Los Angeles. It was an intensely wild and fun trip, but in hindsight, the experience was more an exercise in opening up and believing in possibilities, and was the perfect preparation for my next adventure—taking a chance on me and devoting myself to becoming a full-fledged letterpress printer!

When I returned from XenaCon, my mentor and teacher, Rick Allen of the Kenspeckle Letterpress, off handedly said to me; “You’re like the Warrior Printress”…
and the business name was born. With the encouragement of Rick and his partner Marian, Warrior Printress became its own business in 2012 and operated out of the Kenspeckle Letterpress shop in Canal Park for 8 years.

Then, in 2018 with one simple lunch meeting, I persuaded Stacie (Photo 1, right) to become my business partner. And, just like that, Warrior Printress Letterpress doubled in size and became Warrior Printress Letterpress & Design, LLC.

In 2020, Covid necessitated us to move out from under the protective wings of Kenspeckle Letterpress and out into the world on our own. Thanks to Karin Kramer at Duluth Pottery, we landed in a fantastic makers space—and now have a beautiful art gallery in which to sell our prints, greeting cards, and novelties in the Lincoln Park Craft District—where we still operate under the belief that all things are possible!”

Warrior Printress is a must stop shop for lovers of typography and traditional design methods, and a great place to check out if you need some top tier design work, or some locally made art/pottery for a loved one or yourself! Find them here in Lincoln Park, printing twenty-first century messages with nineteenth century presses and custom works that are “As unique as you are.”
