Everyone belongs, and different is beautiful.❤️

The DRCC team carried that message down the street at the Spirit Valley Days parade, one sign and one wave at a time. Thank you to everyone who lined the route and cheered, and to all the little ones who dashed out for candy.

What was your favorite moment from this year's parade?

Sunshine, big rides, and a whole lot of laughing.

A group from DRCC spent July 23rd at Valleyfair, and the photos tell the whole story: carousel rides, hands in the air, and a soaking-wet trip down the rapids. Thank you to the staff who made a day like this happen.

Which Valleyfair ride is your favorite?

Some good news for the DRCC team.

This year we are adding a mid-year bonus as a thank you for the work you do. The bonus is 60 cents for all hours worked over the first 13 pay periods of the year, up to a maximum of 1,040 hours. All employees, regardless of position, receive the same 60 cents. This equates to a $625 bonus for full-time staff.

A note from our Executive Director, Michelle Hooey:
"I am very happy that we can do this. Your efforts and work are truly appreciated! Regardless of any employee's title or position, we all contribute to the greater good of those we support."

Heat Up Your Earnings This August 🌞

Great employees know great people. That's why we're turning up the heat on our referral program for the entire month of August. If you know someone who shares our values and would make a great addition to our team, now is the perfect time to send them our way.

💵$300 for referring a DSP, APD, or PD
💵$500 for referring a Nurse

Every referral helps strengthen our team and supports the incredible work we do every day. Your recommendation could help someone find a meaningful career and earn you a bigger reward.

👉 Referral bonuses are paid 30 days after the new employee completes their first regularly scheduled shift.

Who's the first person who comes to mind?

Some nights you just have to sing along. Thank you to everyone who came out to the ballpark, and to the Duluth Huskies for playing an amazing game. A summer evening, full of neighbors and friends and a whole lot of smiles. This is the easy part of what we do.

Some days you just need a baby goat. 🐐

Walter and Ronald, along with staff member Traci-Ann, spent a beautiful May afternoon at Sunrise Wild Haven Farm in North Branch, and the baby goats wasted no time making new friends. Lots of sunshine, plenty of hay, and more than a few snuggles.

What's the friendliest farm animal you've ever met?

Throwback Thursday to the night Sterling Strings filled the room with music at our 2026 DRCC Gala. 🎶

The select string ensemble from Duluth East High School Music joined us during the social hour, playing a mix of classical and modern pieces that had the whole room listening. We are so grateful to these talented students for lending their gifts to one of our biggest events of the year.

The Gala is always a special night for the individuals we support, a chance to dress up, celebrate, and dance the evening away. From the outfits to the music to the laughter at every table, this year was one to remember.

Thank you to Sterling Strings and to the Friday Fest Committee for once again bringing it all together. ❤️

A scrapbook made right here in our community is now on display at a national company's headquarters.

Doug, one of the individuals we support, discovered a love for scrapbooking with the help of DRCC staff member Chris Summers. He takes part in local scrapbooking retreats, where he has become someone everyone looks forward to seeing.

Over many months, Doug created a scrapbook documenting the first year of his nephew's life. The result was impressive enough that the team at Creative Memories New shared it with their CEO, who was so moved that Doug's photos now hang on their operations floor for all of their employees to see.

It is a great reminder that the work people do here reaches far beyond our walls. Congratulations, Doug.
