With heavy hearts, our family shares the loss of our beloved Honey.

Honey came into our lives in 2017 after being rescued during the hurricanes in Florida. She was just a puppy then, but from the very beginning she brought love, energy, protection, and comfort into our home. She was a free spirit who loved belly rubs, being close to her people, and keeping watch over the family she loved so deeply.

More than a pet, Honey became emotional support for many in our household during both good days and difficult ones. Her presence was constant, loyal, and full of love.

Last night, Honey passed away suddenly and quickly from what doctors believe was fluid around her heart. While our hearts are broken, we are grateful it appears she did not suffer long, and that she was surrounded by family and love in her final moments.

Thank you for the joy, protection, comfort, and memories you gave us, Honey. You will forever be part of our family and will be deeply missed. 🐾❤️

Today, the Town of Dumfries mourns the loss of former Mayor Christopher Keith Brown.

Mayor Brown dedicated years of service to the community he loved serving on the Town Council and later as Mayor of Dumfries. A lifelong resident, respected businessman, devoted family man, and community leader, his impact on our town will long be remembered.

In 2024, it was my honor to recognize Mayor Brown with the Living Legend Award for his lasting contributions to Dumfries and the generations of lives he touched through public service and leadership.

On behalf of the Town Council, staff, and residents of Dumfries, we extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the Brown family during this difficult time.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers and mother figures in Dumfries and beyond.

Thank you for the love, sacrifice, strength, and wisdom you pour into your families and our community every single day. Strong communities are built on the foundation of strong mothers.

Today, we celebrate you and all that you do often without recognition, but never without impact.

Enjoy your day. You deserve it.

🚦Traffic Pattern Change at Route 1 & Route 234 — What You Need to Know

We know many residents are frustrated, confused, and adjusting to the new traffic pattern at the Route 1 and Route 234 Quadrant Intersection, which became active on Tuesday, May 5th. Change—especially on roads we drive every day—can feel disruptive at first. We hear your concerns, and we want you to know this project was designed with one goal in mind: improving long-term safety and traffic flow for our community.

The new quadrant intersection changes how left turns are made in order to reduce dangerous conflict points, improve traffic movement, and help prevent backups and crashes at one of the busiest intersections in our region.

VDOT has created a short video explaining:
✔️ How the new quadrant intersection works
✔️ Why direct left turns were removed
✔️ How drivers should navigate the new pattern safely and efficiently

We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to watch the video before your next trip through the corridor. Like any major traffic change, there will be a learning curve—but with patience and familiarity, traffic operations are expected to improve significantly over time.

Please slow down, pay attention to the new signage, and give yourself a little extra travel time while everyone adjusts.

Thank you for your patience as we work together to modernize our transportation network and build safer roads for the future.

Eight years ago on May 1st, Dumfries made a decision.

Since then, we’ve done the work—real work—to move our town forward.

Progress didn’t happen by accident. It came from discipline, partnership, and a commitment to doing what’s right for the future of this community.

I’ve already announced my re-election campaign, but today is about reflecting on how far we’ve come and recognizing that the work is not finished.

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in Dumfries? And what do YOU want to see next?
