With a Heavy Heart, I Say Goodbye
It is with profound sorrow that I announce my decision to step down as Chief of the Dunbar Police Department. This community, this department—both have been more than just my place of work; they have been my home, my family, and my purpose for so many years.
Serving the people of Dunbar has been one of the greatest honors of my life. This is not just one of the best communities I’ve had the privilege to be a part of, but also one of the best most dedicated and professional police departments I’ve known. The dedication, compassion, and strength of my fellow officers are second to none. Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated victories, and supported one another in ways that words cannot fully capture.
Leaving is not a decision I’ve taken lightly. My heart is heavy, knowing that I won’t be there every day, standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave men and women who make this department what it is. But I am confident that this decision, difficult as it is, is the right one for me at this time.
Although I may be stepping away from my role as Chief, I am not leaving Dunbar behind. I will always be around to support this community and this department in any way I can. If you need help, guidance, or just a friendly face, please know that I am only a call away.
Thank you, Dunbar, for allowing me to serve you. This isn’t goodbye—this is until we meet again.
With deep gratitude and respect,
Chief Brian Oxley
