Today, WVPST was proud to partner with West Virginia Schools for Diversion & Transition Adult Education and CTE teachers in becoming certified BLS Instructors. This certification will better serve students in jail GOALS Programs and apprenticeships in several prisons to aid and support students with their recovery, training, and employment.

Darin serves as a Public Service Training Coordinator for Mountain State ESC. He instructs public service training courses, including EMS, Fire Service, Law Enforcement, and other programs as needed. He has over 25 years of emergency service experience. He received a BS in Biology from the University of Charleston and is currently pursuing his MS in Adult Education at Marshall University. Description:
This course is designed to provide fire fighters with the knowledge and skill objectives to safely perform rescue techniques to remove trapped or lost fire fighter. RIT Team roles and responsibilities, evaluation of case studies, area searches, lifting and moving techniques, breaching and breaking, hot bottle change/air consumption, extrication support needs, team building skills, size-up techniques, The fire fighter will also participate in “live” scenario-based evaluations involving a down/trapped fire fighter. This is a physically demanding class. FF1 is a prerequisite. No Juniors Full. Structural PPE with SCBA and spare bottle.

Gear:
Full PPE plus an SCBA and 2 spare bottles

NO Juniors!!

Building on foundational pump operations, students will apply advanced hydraulic principles to complex fireground scenarios, including multi-line deployments, master stream operations, relay pumping, standpipe and high-rise systems, drafting, and large-scale water supply management. Through classroom instruction and hands-on evolutions, participants strengthen decision-making,
operational efficiency, and safety in high-demand incidents.

Description:
This course provides responders with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely and effectively manage rescue operations involving heavy-duty and commercial vehicles. Participants will examine the unique construction features, hazards, and stabilization challenges associated with large trucks, buses, commercial transport vehicles, and specialty vehicles.

Instruction emphasizes scene safety, size-up, hazard identification, vehicle stabilization, and disentanglement techniques specific to heavy vehicles. Students will learn to address issues such as high ground clearance, reinforced structures, air brake systems, alternative fuel sources, cargo hazards, and advanced safety systems.

Through classroom instruction and hands-on revolutions, participants will apply tool selection, lifting and cribbing methods, patient access strategies, and coordinated rescue tactics in realistic scenarios. This course reinforces teamwork, communications, and compliance with applicable safety standards and best practices.
