You may have seen us out last week rewarding the kiddos from the Dunbar Primary and Dunbar Intermediate schools for completing another school year. This is always one of our favorite events to participate in, and by the reaction from the kids, it’s definitely their favorite event as well. We hope everyone had a great time!!

WE WILL BE HIRING 1 FIREFIGHTER IMMEDIATELY FROM THIS LIST!

The City of Dunbar and The Dunbar Firefighter’s Civil Service Commission will be accepting applications for the position of:

Probationary Firefighter

* 60 Hours/week starting, then 24on/48off with pay increases after the 1st & 2nd year
* Premium Holiday Pay
* Insurance: Medical/Dental/Vision/
* State MPFRS Retirement
* Starting Base Annual Salary $ 45,787.92
* Union Contract and Labor Agreement with City of Dunbar

Applications may be obtained at City Hall and the Dunbar Fire Department Central Station 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday or downloaded from the Fire Department website (www.dunbarfd.org), beginning Monday, May 18th, 2026.
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, or up to 40 with prior Military service, at time of application.
* Applications must be completed and returned to the City Clerk’s Office by Tuesday June 30th, 2026 at 4:30pm.

This is why the disaster siren went off a few minutes ago here in Dunbar. We’re sorry that we didn’t get a notification out sooner, but we were literally notified when the general public was. Everyone stay safe

If you happen to see our trucks out around 7th st and the alley between 6th and 7th, there is no emergency here. We are using this house for training, it will be torn down soon. Again, there is no fire or emergency here.

The town hall meeting scheduled for Thursday November 13th at 6pm will be held at the Roxalana Gospel Tabernacle Activity Building at 6pm. This meeting is for Dunbar residents, primarily in Ward 4, who would like to ask any questions or address any concerns regarding Fire Station #2. We look forward to seeing you there!

Yesterday afternoon, in the 4300 block of West Washington St, we responded to a structure fire that was fully involved upon arrival. Yesterdays shift was working short with only 3 personnel. Due to the intense heat from the fire, the increased workload from being shorthanded, and the heat from the weather, all 3 firefighters all had to receive a bag of fluids from KCEAA while on scene. They are all ok, but a scary situation nonetheless. We would like to thank Tyler Mountain VFD, Sissonville VFD, and South Charleston Fire Department for their help and manpower on this difficult fire.
