On July 31st, several members of the Duncan Fire Department assisted District 5 nurses with certifying more than 50 teachers and District 5 staff members in Friends & Family CPR, as well as the American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED courses at James F. Byrnes High School, before the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

We’re proud to support our local schools and help ensure teachers and staff have the knowledge and skills needed to respond during a cardiac emergency.

This week and next, members of the Duncan Fire Department are training with the athletic trainers at James F. Byrnes High School on the safe removal of football helmets and shoulder pads during serious injuries or suspected spinal injuries.

Working together before an emergency happens helps ensure a coordinated response and the best possible care for injured athletes. Thank you to the Byrnes athletic training staff for partnering with us!

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July from Duncan Fire Department! 🇺🇸

As you celebrate America’s independence with family and friends, we encourage everyone to make safety a priority.

If you’re using fireworks, always follow local laws and manufacturer instructions. Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby, never allow young children to handle fireworks, and never attempt to relight a firework that fails to ignite. Be mindful of dry grass, trees, homes, and other combustible materials, and remember that sparklers can reach temperatures hot enough to cause serious burns.

The safest way to enjoy fireworks is by attending a public fireworks display conducted by trained professionals.

From all of us at Duncan Fire Department, we wish you and your family a safe, happy, and memorable Fourth of July. Stay safe, celebrate responsibly, and enjoy the holiday!
