Rest in Peace, Officer Christopher Delong Jr. 🖤

The Duncan Police Department extends our deepest condolences following the tragic line-of-duty death of Columbia Police Officer Christopher Delong Jr., who was shot and killed today, August 29, 2026.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Delong’s family, friends, fellow officers at the Columbia Police Department, and all those who knew and loved him.

We stand with our brothers and sisters in law enforcement as we mourn a life lost in service to others.

Rest easy, Officer Delong. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. 💙🖤

Rest in Peace to Columbia Police Officer Christopher Delong Jr who was shot and killed today (8/29/26) in the line of duty. Officer Delong was a son, a father, a husband, a friend, co worker and a public servant who cared. He leaves behind his wife, two small children and his parents, his father who is in Law Enforcement himself.

Officer Chris Delong Jr has been with CPD since January 2025.

Please keep his family, friends and Columbia Police in your prayers as they navigate through this tragedy.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT – DUNCAN 🚨

A disabled train is currently blocking intersections in Duncan:

🚧 W. Main Street & N. Spencer Street — in front of Town Hall
🚧 Smith Street

Norfolk Southern has advised that it could be quite a while before the train can be moved.

Please avoid these areas and use alternate routes. Plan for delays and allow extra travel time.

The first full week of school has officially come to an end! 📚✏️

This incredible group of SROs is tasked with one of the most important jobs—helping keep our children safe while also providing a positive and supportive learning environment each and every day.

They build relationships, encourage our students, support our teachers and staff, and are always ready to step in when needed.

We may be a little biased, but we truly believe they are the best of the best! 💙

Thank you to our SROs for all you do to protect and serve the students and staff of District 5. Here’s to a safe and successful school year! 📚

Today, Chief Cox, Lt. Cothran, Captain Byrd, Captain Hawkins, and Victim Advocate Michelle Willingham had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Middle Tyger Community Center.

This beautiful, state-of-the-art facility was made possible through the vision, dedication, and generosity of so many local supporters and community partners.

The Town of Duncan is proud to have such an incredible resource in our community—one that will provide opportunities, support, and a welcoming place for children and families for generations to come.

Congratulations to everyone who played a part in making this vision a reality. We look forward to seeing the difference this center will make in the lives of so many!

Today will create lasting memories for so many. For some, it is the first day of the first year of school. For others, it might be the first day of the last year of school. Teachers are walking into the classroom to teach for the first time, and some are walking in for the final first day of their career. It can be exciting and scary all at the same time.

One thing that can help calm that is a happy face and safe presence. That is exactly what our guy, Officer Brooks, is. Today starts his 33rd school year as a school resource officer. Even more impressive is that he is working on year 41 in law enforcement! Don't be fooled, though, because Officer Brooks is far from acting his age. He is easily one of the most active and dependable officers you will find.

"If you are from around the area, you know Tommie. If you know him, you love him. As a kid, he was one of my camp counselors at a camp with Greer Police Department. Then he was a school resource officer here in District 5 while I was coming up through school. Now I get to learn from him in a different way. Watching him in his element is impressive, and I can easily see why he is loved by so many. I love hearing stories from him about when I was at Byrnes and Friday nights. I take pride in getting to stand next to him as our careers now get to cross paths. There are actually a handful still going strong in our School Resource Officer division that were at either the Police Department or the school district while I was a student. I appreciate that they do not take lightly how important their role is. Protecting our greatest assets, children, and helping create a safe environment for such an important piece of our lives. Thank you to Tommie, teachers, anyone who has anything to do with supporting our schools, and every school resource officer willing to stand between our children and harm every day they come to work." - Chief B. National Night Out was a huge success last night! 💙

A special thank you to all of our community partners who braved the rain and helped make the evening such a success. Your support and dedication to our community mean so much.

The highlight of the night was seeing the smiles on the faces of so many children and having the opportunity to interact with families throughout our community. Those moments are what National Night Out is all about—building relationships, strengthening trust, and bringing neighbors together.

Thank you to everyone who came out despite the weather. We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and successful school year. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
