Last night is a perfect example of what dedication truly looks like.
At 4:15 AM, the siren sounds for a motor vehicle crash. From a dead sleep, our volunteers jump out of bed and respond without hesitation. They handle the call, return to the station, clean up, and head back home hoping to grab at least a little more rest.
Just as they’re getting back into bed at 6:14 AM, the siren sounds again. This time for a commercial building fire. Once again, they respond immediately. Crews work the incident alongside neighboring departments, handling the situation and returning to the station around 7:52 AM.
Most of those same firefighters now have to rush out the door to their full-time jobs already running late. What people don’t often see is this part: being abruptly woken twice, running emergency calls, and then trying to figure out, do you have time to go home and shower? Change? Or do you show up to work in whatever you threw on in the middle of the night?
Meanwhile, at 8:23 AM, there are still members at the station cleaning gear, putting trucks back in service, and completing reports. Others are already at work, running on little to no sleep, just watching the clock and hoping for a chance to rest later.
This is the side of volunteering that often goes unseen.
This is dedication. This is sacrifice. This is your fire department.
If this story means something to you, there are ways you can support the people who show up for you every day. Consider becoming a volunteer, making a donation, or simply taking a moment to thank a firefighter. Your support helps keep this level of service possible and ensures that when the siren sounds, someone is always ready to answer the call.
