Dundee Community School’s Students and Families,

With a heavy heart, I must share the devastating news that another of our students has passed away. We have learned that one of our students, Riley Straub, an incoming 9th-grade student, has passed away.

Our entire school community is heartbroken by this tragic loss. Our thoughts, deepest condolences, and prayers go out to Riley’s family, friends, and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.

Death is always difficult to understand, but a sudden loss like this can evoke an intense and wide range of emotions in our children, including shock, confusion, sadness, and anxiety. We want to assure you that our school is fully committed to supporting your children and our community through this crisis.
To help our students navigate this profound grief, we will provide a grief support team consisting of counselors, social workers, and crisis response team members who will be available on Monday, August 3rd, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the High School Media Center.

If your child needs immediate assistance outside of school hours, please be aware that the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline can be reached at any time by calling or texting 988. We also want to remind our community that they can connect with community mental health supports and services through the Care Solace service by calling (888) 515-0595.
We encourage you to talk openly with your child about their feelings. Children process grief differently; some may want to talk, while others may become quiet or withdrawn.

Out of deep respect for the family's privacy and to prevent the spread of misinformation, we ask that our community refrain from speculation about this tragedy on social media.

Thank you for your partnership, compassion, and shared support as we look out for one another and walk through this heartbreaking time together.

Dundee Community School’s Students and Families,

It is with a very heavy heart that I share the tragic news that one of our students, Harvey Richards, a 10th-grade student, passed away early this morning following a fatal ATV accident in Summerfield.

The loss of a student is one of the most difficult experiences a school community can face. Harvey was a part of our Viking family, and his loss will be deeply felt by students, staff, families, and the entire Dundee community.

We are working to coordinate support services for students, staff, and families. If you or your student are struggling, need someone to talk to, or are concerned about someone else, please reach out to a trusted adult, teacher, counselor, or building administrator. Community members can also make use of the Care Solace service by calling (888) 515-0595. No one should have to go through this alone.

A grief support team will be onsite at Dundee Community High School on Monday, July 27, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The team will be located in the high school library and will be available to provide support to all students, families, and members of our school community. We will continue to update you with additional support once they are coordinated.

Please be respectful and supportive of Harvey's family, his siblings, the other student involved in the accident, and everyone affected by this tragedy. Individuals may respond to this loss differently, and it is important that we take care of one another during this difficult time.
