Dundee Community School’s Students and Families,
With a heavy heart, I must share the devastating news that another of our students has passed away. We have learned that one of our students, Riley Straub, an incoming 9th-grade student, has passed away.
Our entire school community is heartbroken by this tragic loss. Our thoughts, deepest condolences, and prayers go out to Riley’s family, friends, and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.
Death is always difficult to understand, but a sudden loss like this can evoke an intense and wide range of emotions in our children, including shock, confusion, sadness, and anxiety. We want to assure you that our school is fully committed to supporting your children and our community through this crisis.
To help our students navigate this profound grief, we will provide a grief support team consisting of counselors, social workers, and crisis response team members who will be available on Monday, August 3rd, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the High School Media Center.
If your child needs immediate assistance outside of school hours, please be aware that the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline can be reached at any time by calling or texting 988. We also want to remind our community that they can connect with community mental health supports and services through the Care Solace service by calling (888) 515-0595.
We encourage you to talk openly with your child about their feelings. Children process grief differently; some may want to talk, while others may become quiet or withdrawn.
Out of deep respect for the family's privacy and to prevent the spread of misinformation, we ask that our community refrain from speculation about this tragedy on social media.
