The Dundee Police Department sadly announces the passing of Dundee resident John Bartko on February 20, 2023.

John retired from the Sylvania Township Ohio Police Department in 2008 after 35 years of service. John and his wife Vivian moved to Dundee in 2013 and both helped form the Dundee Volunteers in Police Service organization. John also served as a reserve officer for the Dundee Police Department during the past several years.

Please join our agency and the Sylvania Township Police Department in honoring John's long time service to both communities. A link to the funeral arrangements is posted at the top. Please keep John's family, friends and co-workers in your thoughts and prayers.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED

The Dundee Police Department is pleased to honor and recognize the 2021-2022 Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Volunteer of the Year, Jeremy Downard of Tecumseh, MI.

Jeremy has volunteered nearly 200 hours during the past year helping the department with staffing needs at community events including; downtown parades, shop-with-a-cop, the VIPS golf outing and many other events and tasks performed by our volunteers.

Jeremy is employed full time as the Business Administrator for the Tracker Marine Boating Center at Cabela's, where he has worked for the past 16 years. Jeremy has also worked in the gun department and loss prevention at Cabela's. It was while working loss prevention at the store, that he began to meet many of the Dundee police officers who responded to the store or had simply stopped in to walk through. When he was asked to consider joining the VIPS Team in 2020, Jeremy immediately accepted and has been a real asset to our team in helping the department with its community policing needs. Congratulations Jeremy and thank you for all you do!

Dundee Police Officer Chris McGlynn to run the V.I.P.S. Program

Hello everyone! As you may have heard Dundee PD Lt. Sehl contacted me and asked if I would be willing to help him coordinate the VIPS program. To be completely honest, I really did not have any idea what that would entail. After a brief conversation with Randy, I agreed to help him in this endeavor. So… let me introduce myself to those of you who may not know me. Forgive me for the biographical format…lol

I’m 55 years old, married to the love of my life, have 5 children and 5 Grandchildren. I have been a police officer since 1988 (Randy and I graduated the academy together). I worked for several years in Monroe County until accepting a full time position with the Sumpter Township Police Sumpter Township Police Department in 1991. While there I served as the departement’s first K-9 officer from 1992-2006. I was a field training officer (FTO) from 1997-2019. I coordinated/supervised the K-9 Units from 2006-2009, and upon being promoted to Sergeant in 2008, oversaw the field training program, and animal shelter, as well as being the night shift supervisor. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University’s School of Police Staff and Command / Executive Leadership Program in 2014, and remained in my supervisory role until my retirement from Sumpter in 2019. It is at that point that I was approached by Lt. Sehl, and then Chief Garbo to consider a part time job in Dundee, which I of course accepted. I am looking forward to this new challenge, and welcome any questions, or ideas you may have. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with all of you!
