National Purple Heart Day is observed on August 7 each year and is a time for Americans to remember and honor the brave men and women who represented our country and were either wounded on the battlefield, or paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.
Join the City of Dunedin in this special ceremony as we honor and pay tribute to all Veterans, with special focus on Purple Heart recipients who have earned the military tribute by virtue of their bravery and sacrifice. This year's event will feature a helicopter flyover, Honor Guard Rifle Salute, keynote speaker Dr. Richard T. Weltz, Commander of Military Purple Heart State of Florida Chapter, and other special guests.

During its July 23, 2026, Commission Meeting, Dunedin City Commission enacted the following:
• Proclaimed Friday, August 7, 2026, as Purple Heart Recognition Day in Dunedin
• Board and Committee Appointments
👉 Dunedin Causeway and Coastal Waterways Committee – approved the appointment of Christian Oshea as member
• Approved Construction Phase Professional Services to the GEC Agreement / Service Authorization with Tetra Tech, Inc., a Delaware Corporation, for the Wastewater Treatment Plan (WWTP) Emergency Generator Building Rehabilitation Project, in the Not for $54,964.
• Authorized Duke Energy Utility Easement for Two 2,500 kVa Transformers at the Wastewater Treatment Plant
• Awarded construction bid to Pannonia Development, LLC, of Seminole, FL, for $169,850 for the WWTP Breakroom Renovation Project
• Approved Duke Energy Utility Easement for Electrical Service at Grand Oak Park
• Approved Addendum #2 for Limited Construction Management Professional Services (Additional Inspection Services) to the contract with Ardurra Group, Inc., of Tampa, FL, for the Marina Bulkhead Repair Project, for $34,448, for a total contract amount of $83,726.
• Approved the First Reading of Ordinance 26-08, an ordinance amending the City of Dunedin Code of Ordinances to prohibit launching motorized watercraft from the Dunedin Causeway Beach to protect the shoreline, reduce negative environmental impacts and reduce overall user safety.. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to hearing public input from a large number of residents and stakeholders regarding environmental impact, safety, and water access. Second reading will be September 3, 2026
• Approved the First Reading of Ordinance 25-02: Amending Chapter 111 of the Land Development Code regarding Historic Preservation. Changes include updated definitions for landmark sites and a streamlined process for Certificates of Appropriateness (COA). Second Reading will be held August 6, 2026
• Tabled discussion on Resolution 26-08 Declaration of Intent to Reimburse the Cost of Construction of a Parking Garage from future Tax-Exempt Debt
• Adopted a maximum millage rate of 4.1345 which will increase revenue generated from gross taxable value to $20,861,796 in FY 2027. This is an increase over FY 2026's budget by $776,800 in the General Fund and $112,310 in the CRA Fund
• Awarded bid to replace the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Return Activated Sludge (RAS) and Filter Feed Pumps Replacement Project to TLC Diversified, Inc., for $1,955,810
• Awarded bid for the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Emergency Generator Building Rehabilitation Project to Mali Contracting Group for $1,082,203.10
• Commission roundtable discussion mentioned the recent Dunedin Chamber of Commerce trip to Toronto meeting with the Toronto Blue Jays fostering the City and business relationships with the Blue Jays. The economic impact of the Blue Jays in $200 million in Pinellas County
