🚔 Rideshare Safety Alert: Know Before You Go! 🚔
As New Jersey gets ready to host the upcoming World Cup events, we know many of our residents and visitors will be relying on rideshare apps to get around. Before you request your next ride, we want to remind you about a crucial piece of public safety: Sami’s Law.

Passed in 2019, this law honors the memory of Robbinsville native Samantha “Sami” Josephson, who tragically lost her life after entering a vehicle she mistakenly thought was her rideshare.

To prevent this from ever happening again, New Jersey law requires all rideshare drivers to clearly identify themselves. Before you open the door, look for these three mandatory items on your driver's vehicle:
✅ Illuminated/Reflective Signs: Drivers must have official, light-up or reflective rideshare markers displayed on BOTH the front and rear windows.
✅ Driver Placards: You should clearly see two official credential placards displaying the driver's information.
✅ Scannable Barcodes: The vehicle must display machine-scannable barcodes that are completely unique to that driver and their specific car.

Your safety checklist:
Stop and take a few extra seconds. Match the license plate, check for the required window signs, and verify the driver's face and name using your app before stepping inside.
Please share this post with your friends, family, and anyone visiting the area. Let's honor Sami’s memory by making sure everyone gets to their destination safely. 💙

PUBLIC NOTICE

In an effort to make our roads safer and reduce crashes attributed to drunk driving, the Dunellen Police Department will be conducting a D.W.I. Checkpoint on Friday evening (6/19/2026) beginning at 10pm until 2am.

The detail will be conducted on the 100 blk of North Ave (Rt. 28) between Jefferson and Jackson Ave. The purpose of the D.W.I. Checkpoint will be to identify drivers under the influence and remove them from the roadway. Motorists can expect delays while this initiative being conducted.

If you plan on drinking, have a designated driver, arrange for transportation, or stay where you are. It's not worth the risk of hurting or killing yourself, a friend, a loved one, or an innocent motorist.
