Today I had the privilege of participating in Read Across America at Faber Elementary School. My ambassador, Sofia, was a gracious host.

I read to a fifth-grade class from the book Separate but Not Equal, which tells the story of the struggles faced by Sylvia Mendez and her family in 1945. Since the class is currently learning about government, the story was truly an eye-opener for many of the students.

The children asked thoughtful and insightful questions, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to their perspectives and hearing their thoughts about fairness, government, and history. It was a wonderful and meaningful experience.
