To the members of the Dunellen Rescue Squad, and community,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Dunellen Defender Fire Company Life Member Jack Green.
Jack dedicated nearly five decades of his life to serving the Dunellen community, joining the Fire Department in 1978 after serving four years in the United States Marine Corps. His commitment to service was something that extended throughout his entire family and created a bond between our two departments that has lasted for generations.
Jack’s wife, Pat, is one of our own. She is a Life Member of the Dunellen Rescue Squad and served as Captain (Chief) during her years of active service. Their son, Shawn, is also a Life Member of the Fire Department. For a family to give so many years of their lives in service to one community says more about who they are than I ever could.
Those of us in emergency services understand that the relationships we build go far beyond the apparatus we ride on or the patch we wear. We work together, we look after one another, and over the years, we become family. Today, a member of our family is hurting.
I ask that all of us keep Pat, Shawn, the entire Green family, and our brothers and sisters at the Defender Fire Company in our thoughts during the difficult days ahead. Please support them in whatever way you can.
Pat, please know that your Rescue Squad family is here for you.
Rest easy, Jack. Thank you for your lifetime of service to Dunellen.
