π Fire Hydrant Safety Notice β Dungannon Volunteer Fire Department π
This past week we was out inspecting all hydrants and got to say i was impressed how the community has stepped up and helps maintain the grounds around most of them!! We have a list of a couple that we will go back and get the site cleaned up a little better in the coming week or two.
We will also start our annual Flow Testing of all hydrants as soon as we get the remander 3 or 4 sites cleaned up. And pending results we may need to repaint the tops because different colors mean different flow rates.
Fire hydrants are a critical part of our community's fire protection system. Every second counts during an emergency, and firefighters must have immediate access to hydrants when responding to fires.
For the safety of our residents, please remember:
πΉ Never park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. This distance is required in many jurisdictions to allow firefighters room to connect hoses and operate equipment safely. This applies to public and private driveways. This is a Va State Code
πΉ Keep hydrants visible and accessible at all times. Do not allow shrubs, fences, decorations, vehicles, trailers, or other objects to block access. Fire codes commonly require at least 3 feet of clear space around hydrants.
πΉ Property owners are encouraged to help maintain hydrant access. Trim vegetation and remove snow, debris, or other obstructions that may prevent firefighters from locating and using a hydrant quickly.
πΉ Blocked hydrants can delay emergency response. A vehicle or obstacle in front of a hydrant may hinder firefighters' ability to supply water to a fire, potentially putting lives and property at risk.
π¨ Remember: Parking too close to a hydrant can result in citations, towing, or emergency personnel taking whatever action is necessary to gain access during a fire.
The Dungannon Volunteer Fire Department appreciates your cooperation in helping keep our community safe. By keeping fire hydrants clear and accessible, you are helping firefighters protect lives and property when every second matters.
"Keep It Clear β Firefighters Need Access Here!"
Yall keep up the great work and we thank each and every one in our community for your support.
