Reprint of Observer announcement:
Kevin Muldowney recently announced that he is running for the position of Chautauqua County Legislator in District One. Muldowney is endorsed by the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform Parties. He has also received the endorsement of the local chapter of the AFL-CIO.
A lifelong resident of the City of Dunkirk, Mr. Muldowney currently serves as the Community Liaison for NYS Senator Cathy Young's office. He has worked for Senator Young the last twelve years. He also served this role for previous State Senators Pat McGee and Jess Present. Kevin also is the President of Muldowney Development, Inc., and is the assessor in the Town of Pomfret for the last 11 years.
Muldowney was elected to the office of Second Ward Councilman for the City of Dunkirk for five terms, and served from 2002-2011. Kevin is extremely proud of the growth the city accomplished during his tenure. "As chairman of the Economic Development Committee, our team was able to both create and complete many projects along the Dunkirk waterfront. I am very proud of our efforts, and feel great pride that new developments like the Dunkirk Boardwalk, the SUNY Fredonia Business Incubator, and the Dunkirk Lofts apartment project, were all started and completed while I was Economic Development chairman. We also increased the number of festivals in Dunkirk, and we moved our weekly summer music events from Washington Park to the Dunkirk City Pier, where it has become incredibly successful! I want to take this experience to the County level, where I can work with the County Executive and other legislators to revitalize Northern Chautauqua County, particularly the area along Lake Erie."
Kevin feels there are many important issues facing Chautauqua County. First and foremost, he feels the county needs to work to keep the NRG power plant running in Dunkirk. Having worked on the frontlines with Senator Young when it was initially announced the plant may be mothballed, Kevin spearheaded many local rallies to make the Public Service Commission and the Governor's office aware of the importance the plant had to both our city and our county. Muldowney also knows that we must bring new economic development to this region for it to grow. In this capacity, he would like to see more programs that train young workers so that they are able to handle the ever changing demands of the current workplace. He is particularly pleased with the recently announced plans of converting the former School Six building to a state of the art P-Tech Academy. If completed, this program would train high school students to work in today's manufacturing environment. This would in turn make our area more attractive for manufacturers to consider opening new facilities in the Dunkirk area.
Kevin is currently married to his wife, Mary Beth Muldowney, who is employed by the Dunkirk City School system. They have two teenage sons, Patrick and Daniel, and currently reside in the City of Dunkirk.
