Dunlap Fire Department The Official Dunlap Fire Department page, Serving the citizens of Dunlap, Tennessee The department is a not-for-profit, 100% volunteer organization.

The Dunlap Fire Department was re-organized in 1974 as the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department, under then Chief Mike Walker. Since that time, the department has been led by three other Chiefs: Raymond Walker, Ricky Smith, and the current Chief, Norman Hatfield. The department serves the City of Dunlap, and the unincorporated area of northern Sequatchie County.

MONDAY JUNE 8, 2026

At 9:54 AM CST, Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a 2 vehicle accident on Hwy 8/111 near the waterfalls going up Cagle Mountain. Sheriff deputies were first to arrive and found the road blocked by the accident. Dunlap FFs arrived and assisted with closing the road at the scene while Puckett EMS worked with the patient. The driver of one vehicle sustained life threatening injures and did not survive. The other driver was transported with what appeared to be non life threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for a long period as Tennessee Highway Patrol officers investigated the accident. Several agencies responded and assisted including Sequatchie County Sheriff deputies, Sequatchie County EMA, Sequatchie County Rescue, Cagle VFD, TDOT and Griswold n Sons Wrecker. Dunlap Fire Department offers its condolences to the family for their loss.

Yesterday Thursday June 4, 2026 Dunlap Fire Department was setup at Harris Park for the “Summer Safety Bash” put together by the Sequatchie County Health Department. We gave away some goodie bags and had some kids try out the drivers seat of Engine 1.

Come on down and bring the kids to Harris Park for the “Summer Safety Bash”. Dunlap Fire Department will be on hand with some of our equipment. Starting at 3PM Event being organized by the Sequatchie County Health Department.

TUESDAY JUNE 2, 2026

At 12:01 PM CST Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a 2 car MVC on Hwy 111 at the Holland Dr intersection, just past the Save-a-lot store. A Rescue Squad member drove up on the accident and reported that 2 ambulances were needed. Sheriff deputies and Dunlap Police arrived and advised of two patients. Dunlap Fire responded with Rescue 1 and Engine 1 with 7 firefighters. Extrication was not required so firefighters assisted Puckett with loading the 2 patients and assisted in getting traffic moving. Both victims received serious but non life threatening injuries with one being airlifted to Erlanger Chattanooga. The accident was investigated by Dunlap Police Department. Pictures by Dunlap Fire.

SATURDAY, MAY 30, 2026

At 10:40 AM CST Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a two car MVC with possible entrapment on Hwy 8/111 at the Tram Trail Street intersection. Dunlap Fire responded with Rescue 1 and Engine 1 and 10 volunteer FFs. One victim was extricated with Hurst rescue tools but appeared to only have minor injures. The accident was just inside the city limits and is being worked by the Dunlap Police Department. Sequatchie County Sheriff’s deputies assisted with Puckett EMS transporting the injured parties. Sequatchie County Rescue provided traffic control. Pictures by Chief Hatfield.

Effective today, burn permits issued through the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry are no longer required for open burning in Sevier County until October 15, 2026.

Although permits are not required during this period, all outdoor burning must still be conducted in accordance with all applicable Tennessee Division of Forestry regulations, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) regulations, local ordinances, and all other applicable state laws.

The following safety requirements shall be observed at all times:

• Fires shall be constantly attended and supervised until fully extinguished
• An adequate method of fire control and extinguishment shall be immediately available at the burn site
• Open burning shall not be conducted within an unsafe distance of structures, vehicles, combustible materials, woodlands, or other exposures
• Burning shall not be conducted during hazardous weather or wind conditions that could cause fire spread or create a public safety hazard

Any person conducting open burning in violation of applicable laws, regulations, or safety requirements may be subject to enforcement action, citation, suppression costs, civil penalties, and/or criminal penalties as prescribed by Tennessee law.

Please burn responsibly and help protect the citizens, visitors, property, and natural resources of Sevier County.
