Dunlap Fire Department The Official Dunlap Fire Department page, Serving the citizens of Dunlap, Tennessee The department is a not-for-profit, 100% volunteer organization.

The Dunlap Fire Department was re-organized in 1974 as the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department, under then Chief Mike Walker. Since that time, the department has been led by three other Chiefs: Raymond Walker, Ricky Smith, and the current Chief, Norman Hatfield. The department serves the City of Dunlap, and the unincorporated area of northern Sequatchie County.

At 7:33 PM CST Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a single vehicle accident on Russell Street near the El Metate restaurant. Dunlap Police arrived on scene
and confirmed an accident with entrapment. The vehicle went off the roadway and hit a tree on the right front with the left side in the ditch. Firefighters used Hurst battery powered tools to be able to free the driver who was turned over to Puckett EMS for transport. The driver appeared to have sustained serious injures. Dunlap Police Department will be investigating the accident. Garrett’s Wrecker was the owners request. Pictures by Chief Hatfield and FF Birdwell

At 5:49 AM CST Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Cagle Mountain SR 111/8. The accident involved two vehicles, a semi truck and a passenger car. The driver of the passenger car had to be extricated and unfortunately did not survive the accident. Other agencies responding were Sequatchie County Sheriff deputies, Cagle VFD, Sequatchie County EMA, Sequatchie County Rescue, TDOT and Griswold’s Wrecker. Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. The road had to be closed and traffic diverted until lanes could be cleared of debris. Dunlap Fire offers its condolences to the family of the victim. Any further release of information will be directed to THP.

44 years ago today the Dunlap volunteer fire department had their first and only line of duty death. Ricky Hitchcox lost his life while battling a commercial fire. We place a wreath at his final resting place every year on the anniversary of his death. No greater love has a man than to give his life for others. Rest in peace brother.

Today some members of the Dunlap Fire Department will take the short trip to a small cemetery in Bledsoe County. Members will place a wreath on the grave of Firefighter Hitchcox as today marks the anniversary of his Line if Duty Death. This year will be the 44th year members have placed a wreath. NEVER FORGET.
