From WSDOT: Weekend construction ahead: Expect southbound I-5 lane closures for daytime road work in DuPont

People who travel south on Interstate 5 through DuPont and Joint Base Lewis-McChord are encouraged to add more travel time.

9 p.m. Aug. 28 to 4:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31
• Travelers should consider adding at least 20 minutes of travel time.
• Southbound I-5 will reduce to three lanes approaching DuPont.
• People are encouraged to check backups on the WSDOT app before heading out the door.

The weekend lane reduction allows crews to reroute drainage under I-5. This involves grinding asphalt, paving and adding temporary lane markings.

The work could be rescheduled if there is rain in the forecast.
People are encouraged to sign up for email updates for this project and other major road work on state highways in Pierce County.
