๐Ÿ‘ฃ Itโ€™s Wandering Wednesday, doubled up today! ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Students at Riverview Elementary put their bike safety skills to the test on May 12 during a fun-filled Bike Rodeo as part of the Safe Routes to School program. From hand signals and obstacle courses to safe riding tips, students learned how to stay safe and confident on two wheels while having a blast outdoors.

A big thank you to the City of Durango - Government and Durango Police for partnering with our schools to support safe, active transportation for students across our community. Weโ€™re grateful for the caring adults helping our kids build healthy habits and safe biking skills for life. ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you for the early mornings, late nights, steady encouragement, creativity, patience, and care you pour into students every single day. Whether you work in classrooms, cafeterias, buses, offices, libraries, maintenance, technology, counseling, or behind the scenes, you make a difference for kids and families across our community.

Public education is powered by people who show up with heart, even during challenging times. We are grateful for each and every one of you. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿค— Itโ€™s Friday Feels! ๐Ÿค— Better World Day is what learning looks like when it matters.

โ™ป๏ธ Classrooms at Riverview Elementary School came alive today as students turned ideas into action โ€“ interviewing elderly residents to learn life stories, writing letters to communities in need, designing games to teach recycling, and even crafting colorful jump ropes from recycled T-shirts. Others explored how local businesses support sustainability and care for people in our community.

๐Ÿซถ The best part? It wasnโ€™t just about projects โ€“ it was about purpose. Students shared, explained, and invited families to ask questions, turning every room into a space for connection and curiosity.

Better World Day is how Riverview students are learning to make the world a little better, one idea at a time. ๐ŸŒŽ

๐Ÿ‘ฃ It's Wandering Wednesday! ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Riverview Elementary School's Green Team took their learning outside this week โ€“ exploring the important role birds play in our environment. Durango High School Green Team members stepped in as mentors, working alongside the younger students.

Students discovered that birds do more than just sing. They help pollinate plants, control pests, and spread seeds that grow new life across our landscapes.

Then it was time to get hands-on. Students built and decorated their own birdhouses before heading out on a bird walk around campus. With field guides in hand, they listened closely, spotted movement in the trees, and recorded their observations like true young naturalists.

Learning, creating, and exploringโ€”just another way our students are connecting to the world around them. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿฆ

โœ… Tomorrow is lottery day for one of the middle school options in our community. We know many families are weighing important decisions right now, and we wish every student the very best wherever their path leads.

๐ŸŽ At Durango School District, weโ€™re proud to offer middle schools where every student can explore their interests and grow into who they want to become.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Through our Portrait of a Graduate vision, students build skills like leadership, collaboration, and creative problem-solving from kindergarten through graduation. Because Durango School District is a connected Kโ€“12 system, our middle schools are intentionally designed to prepare students for the academic pace and expectations they will experience in high school.

๐Ÿค– Our middle schools open doors to robotics, performing arts, athletics, outdoor learning, 14 Career & Technical Education pathways, and project-based learning that connects to real life.

When families choose Durango School District for middle school, theyโ€™re choosing access โ€” access to high-tech equipment , fully equipped science labs , competitive robotics programs, and learning spaces designed for hands-on exploration.

๐ŸŽฌ At Miller Middle School, students step into a professional broadcast studio with industry-level cameras, lighting, and editing software. In robotics and science labs, they design, test, code, and experiment โ€” learning how to solve real problems with real tools .

๐ŸŒฑ At Escalante Middle School, innovation grows inside a working hydroponic greenhouse where students study plant science, sustainability, and data collection. Robotics teams collaborate, compete, and engineer solutions. Science labs buzz with inquiry, experimentation, and discovery.

๐Ÿ”ฌ These arenโ€™t occasional enrichment projects. Theyโ€™re embedded into schools built to support comprehensive programming โ€” with the staffing, facilities, and equipment that allow students to explore widely and deeply.

Middle school is a launchpad. Students deserve spaces that stretch their thinking and match their potential.

Stay connected. Stay challenged. Stay with DSD. ๐Ÿ’™

This playful moment is part of a bigger lesson on how small choices can make a big difference, especially during a dry winter. The joy you see here is real learning in action โ€” hands-on, loud, curious, and memorable.
