We wish you all a happy Juneteenth!
As historian and co-chair of the Juneteenth Legacy Project, Sam Collins, said- "Juneteenth is not about enslavement and suffering, [it] is about a spirit of renewal that celebrates freedom and opportunity. Absolute equality is not about equal results but about creating a society that supports all to become their very best selves to benefit the collective community.”

Help celebrate Colorado’s 150th birthday by exploring our past and present!

The La Plata County Historic Preservation Review Commission and the City of Durango Historic Preservation Board, in partnership with the Animas Museum, the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College, the Pine River Valley Heritage Society, the Bayfield Museum and Heritage Society, and the Ignacio Community Library have launched the Then and Now Postcard Challenge, a summer 2026 activity for fourth- and fifth-grade students throughout La Plata County.

Students are invited to match historic photos from around the county by taking their own “now” photos. Submit your photos to create a community gallery showing how the region has changed over time. Students who were 4th and 5th graders in the 2025-2026 school year are eligible to win. Participation is free and voluntary!

We love helping out our neighbors, even if they don't mention that we're the ones doing the work 😉
The County owns the right of way where the boulders are, and after some cyclists brought it to our attention, we knew we needed to help out, as a matter of public safety! 🤝🚴‍♀️🚜

Horse Gulch road will be closed all day on Wednesday, June 17, for spot grading and removal of boulders on the lower section. The road will be closed from the trailhead near East 8th Avenue and 3rd Street to the upper end where it terminates at County Road 237. The parking lot and the connector to Durango Mesa Park will remain open. Durango Trails, Durango Parks and Recreation La Plata County Government

A lil BTS from our in-house sign shop!
Having the capability to produce our own signs for county roads saves us some BIG bucks.
Making our own Stop signs, for example, saves us about $56 per sign!
Look out for these new signs going up for the road projects funded by the 1¢ sales tax! 👏
