Last Tuesday, one of our local 4-H members, Mykah Meshew, was working with her horses at home and was involved in a serious horse accident. Mykah was kicked in the stomach, causing serious internal injuries.
She was rushed to Children’s Hospital, where doctors determined that she had suffered a severe liver laceration affecting approximately 75% of her liver. After receiving treatment, Mykah was thankfully able to return home, but her recovery journey is only just beginning.
Doctors have placed her on strict activity restrictions until at least July 21, meaning this active, hardworking young lady must spend the next several weeks resting and allowing her body time to heal. For a child who loves her animals, 4-H activities, and spending time with friends and family, this recovery period will be both physically and emotionally challenging.
As Mykah focuses on healing, her family is facing unexpected financial burdens. Her mother, Michele, missed work while staying by Mykah’s side at Children’s Hospital and will likely continue to incur additional expenses throughout the recovery process. Between lost wages, travel, meals, medical costs, and the many unforeseen expenses that come with a traumatic injury, the financial strain is significant.
Anyone who knows Mykah and her family knows they are the kind of people who are always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Now, they need our help.
We are asking our community, fellow 4-H families, friends, and supporters to come together and help ease some of the financial stress so Michele can focus on what matters most—helping Mykah heal.
Donations, gift cards and other forms of support can also be dropped off at the La Plata County Extension Office, 2500 Main Ave., Durango, CO 81301.
No donation is too small, and every contribution will go directly toward supporting Mykah and her family during this difficult time. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Mykah in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for helping us surround this wonderful family with the love and support they deserve.
