Our recruits are continuing to progress through the heat! ☀️👮‍♂️💪

This week’s training block has focused on Fi****ms Training, giving our recruits the opportunity to develop and refine the skills necessary to safely and effectively operate their duty weapons. From classroom instruction to long, demanding days on the range and scenario-based exercises, recruits are building a strong foundation in fi****ms safety, marksmanship, weapon handling, and sound decision-making under pressure.

Fi****ms proficiency is an essential part of law enforcement training. These recruits are being challenged to maintain focus, discipline, and consistency while working through the physical and mental demands of training, and doing it all while battling the Oklahoma heat!

We are proud of the dedication, determination, and professionalism they continue to demonstrate. Every round fired, every skill practiced, and every challenge overcome is another step toward becoming confident and capable law enforcement officers.

Keep pushing, recruits! Stay focused, stay safe, and keep getting better!

Our recruits are progressing well through the administrative phase of recruit training! 👮‍♂️💪

This week’s training block focuses on Defensive Tactics, bringing demanding physical challenges that test both their skills and their fitness. Physical fitness remains a key focus as they prepare for the demands of the law enforcement profession.

We are proud of their dedication, determination, and continued effort. They are putting in the work, pushing through the challenges, and continuing to grow as future members of our team.

🏆🪓 Durant Police Department Axe Throwing Team took home the win last night in the 3rd annual Battle of the Axes competition!

DPD beat out 7 other teams consisting of Texas law enforcement agencies and Fire Departments.

The Axe will be displayed at the Durant PD until next year’s competition when we return to take the championship again!! 👊 🪓 🏆

Thank you Denison Citizen Police Academy for the invitation. We always love the friendly competition with our brothers and sisters to the south.

🚔 Training Today: LEDT Law Enforcement Driver Training

Our new recruits were out training today in LEDT (Law Enforcement Driver Training)—one of the most important skills they will use throughout their careers.

Driving is one of the most frequently utilized daily skills for a law enforcement officer, and proper training is critical to keeping our officers and community safe. Today’s training focused on defensive driving, evasive maneuvers, emergency response driving, and pursuit driving techniques.

We are proud of the progress our recruits are making and the dedication they continue to show throughout their training. They are building the skills, confidence, and decision-making abilities necessary to serve our community safely and professionally.

At this week’s Durant City Council meeting, the Durant Police Department was honored to receive its OLEAP Large Agency Accreditation.

This is more than an award—it represents our commitment to professionalism, accountability, training, best practices, and excellence in serving our community.

🏆 Only 21 law-enforcement agencies statewide currently hold OLEAP Large Agency Accreditation, and Durant Police Department is proud to be one of them.

Accreditation means our department has been independently evaluated and recognized for meeting rigorous professional standards in policies, procedures, administration, training, operations, and service to our community.

We are proud of the men and women of the Durant Police Department and grateful to our City leadership and citizens for their continued support.

🎓🚔 That’s a wrap on the 2026 Durant Police Department Youth Academy!

Yesterday, we celebrated the first graduating class of the Durant Police Department Youth Academy! We are incredibly proud of each of our cadets and the commitment they showed throughout the program.

Graduation was a special opportunity to recognize their accomplishments, celebrate their hard work, and present awards to cadets for their outstanding achievements. 🏆👏

To our first-ever Youth Academy graduates: congratulations! We hope you leave this experience with great memories, new friendships, and an even stronger connection to your community.

Thank you for being part of YA-26-01 and making this inaugural class one to remember. We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next! 💙🎓

☕ HONORING OUR PAST. BUILDING OUR FUTURE. 👮‍♂️🚔

Today, the Chief and members of the Durant Police Department had the privilege of sharing coffee, conversation, and some great stories with our retired dispatchers and officers.

There’s something special about sitting around the table with the people who came before us and hearing the stories of the calls, challenges, friendships, and experiences that helped shape our department.

Their experience, dedication, sacrifice, and service helped build the foundation we stand on today. We are grateful for the legacy they have left behind—and even more grateful for the opportunity to learn from it.

We honor our past by remembering where we came from, and we build our future by carrying those lessons forward.

Thank you to all of our retired members for your service, your stories, and the foundation you built for those who serve today. 💙

Today, we had the privilege of celebrating an extraordinary career as we honored the retirement of Captain Chris Cicio, Badge #10.

For 33 years, Captain Cicio served our community. During today's celebration, we shared stories and reflected on just how much policing has evolved throughout his career, from advancements in technology and communications to the evolution of patrol vehicles and equipment. While many things have changed over the last three decades, one thing has remained constant: the mission and the unwavering commitment to answer the call and serve our community.

A law enforcement career is never accomplished alone. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Captain Cicio's family, whose love, patience, and support made this remarkable career possible. We also recognize all of our police families, who stand beside our officers through the long hours, holidays, missed milestones, and the many challenges that come with this profession. Your sacrifices are an essential part of public service, and we are deeply grateful.

Congratulations, Captain Chris Cicio, on an outstanding 33-year career of service. Thank you for your leadership, your dedication, and the lasting impact you've made on the Durant Police Department and the community you served.

We wish you and your family nothing but health, happiness, and many well-earned adventures in retirement.
