Connecting With Our Community at the Back-to-School Block Party

On August 7, Durant Main Street hosted its Back-to-School Block Party, bringing together local families, law enforcement agencies, first responders, and community partners to help celebrate the start of a new school year.
Lighthorse Police Officer Whit Creason, alongside Choctaw Nation Emergency Management, proudly represented the Choctaw Nation Department of Public Safety at the event.

Throughout the evening, Officer Creason connected with local students and their families by showcasing his patrol vehicle, explaining the equipment he uses while on duty, and answering questions about law enforcement and the important role of the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department.

Events like the Back-to-School Block Party provide a great opportunity to build positive relationships with our communities, connect with young people, and give families a closer look at the work our public safety professionals do each day.
We appreciate everyone who stopped by to visit, ask questions, and spend time with our team. We wish all students, teachers, and families a safe and successful school year.

Join us in congratulating the graduates of CLEET Academy Class A2602B!

This graduating class also marks another proud first for the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department. Lighthorse Officer Robert Turnbough was selected by his fellow academy classmates to serve as the class spokesperson—a tremendous honor and reflection of the respect and confidence of his peers. Officer Turnbough delivered an outstanding and inspiring message during the graduation ceremony, representing himself, his class, and the Lighthorse Police Department with distinction.

To all the graduates, your dedication, discipline, perseverance, and hard work have brought you to this important milestone. We are proud to celebrate this well-earned achievement with each of you.

As you begin the next chapter of your careers, we wish you continued success. May you serve your communities with integrity, professionalism, courage, and commitment.

The Town of Allen and the Allen Police Department recently hosted a Back-to-School Community Event, inviting law enforcement agencies and first responders from across southeast Oklahoma to participate.

Lighthorse Police Officer Gavin Sellers proudly represented the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department. Throughout the event, Officer Sellers engaged with local students and their families by showcasing his patrol vehicle, explaining the equipment he uses on duty, and answering questions about law enforcement and the role of the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department.

The event concluded with a community parade through Allen, traveling along Broadway and Lee Streets, providing a memorable ending to a day focused on building positive relationships between first responders and the community.

FBI National Academy, Oklahoma Chapter Update

Session 299 is currently completing its third week of ten weeks of training, continuing the rigorous professional development and leadership experience that the FBI National Academy provides to law enforcement leaders from across the country.

Lighthorse Officers would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Choctaw Nation leadership and the CNDPS Training Division for their continued commitment to providing high-quality training opportunities for our officers. These opportunities strengthen our knowledge, sharpen our skills, build confidence, and enhance our ability to serve and protect the citizens of the Choctaw Nation.

On July 23, 2026, Lighthorse Officers Chase Wood, Christian Minyen, and Floyd Murry attended the FREE Tactical Medical for First Responders course in Catoosa, Oklahoma. This outstanding training was provided through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) and made available through the efforts of our CNDPS Training Division and leadership.

Each officer benefited from the course in unique ways:

🚑 Officer Floyd Murry, a certified Tactical Response Team (TRT) Operator and EMT-B, expanded his tactical medical knowledge, refined critical lifesaving skills, and earned continuing education hours required to maintain his EMT certification.

🚑 Officer Christian Minyen strengthened his emergency medical knowledge while earning continuing education credits toward maintaining his EMT-B certification, further enhancing his ability to provide lifesaving care in the field.

🚑 Officer Chase Wood broadened his understanding of emergency medical response beyond basic lifesaving measures, increasing his preparedness to respond effectively during critical incidents.

Professional development is a vital part of modern law enforcement, and training opportunities like this ensure our officers remain prepared to meet the challenges of the job while providing the highest level of service to our communities.

On behalf of the officers who attended, thank you to the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, our CNDPS leadership, and the citizens of the Choctaw Nation Reservation for your continued investment in the Lighthorse Police Department. Your support allows us to continually improve our skills so we can better serve, protect, and care for our communities every day.

On July 15, 2026, law enforcement officers from the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department, Choctaw Nation Emergency Management, Hochatown Police Department, Broken Bow Police Department, and several other agencies came together to participate in the Heroes and Handshakes fundraiser in support of the family of Broken Bow Police Officer Zann Mann.

Officer Mann tragically lost his life in an off-duty motorcycle accident in May 2026. The event brought first responders and members of the community together to honor his memory while raising funds to assist his family during this difficult time. The strong turnout reflected the unity, compassion, and unwavering support shared among law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
