Eversource is in town right now working to clear roads. They are being impeded by cars parked on the sides of roads. Cars can not be parked on town roads overnight, especially in the areas of the tree and wire issues. Please move cars, and tell your neighbors too.

August 5 2020

7:45pm update:

There are still significant outages in Durham. Eversource has been working to make all downed wires safe, while doing a full damage assessment. This storm appears to have done more damage to the electrical system than Superstorm Sandy in 2012. Our Public Works department has already managed to clear all trees from the road that do not involve electrical wires. Trees involving wires must wait until Eversource makes the scene safe for tree crews and public works crews. Public works, public safety agencies, Eversource, contractors, and tree crews have been working nonstop since yesterday afternoon. There are still some roads with no access in or out, and those roads will be made priority as soon as Eversource shifts from assessment/make safe mode to clearing trees and wires. Restoration of power will likely take a number of days at a minimum.

For those of you without power, non-potable water is available via a garden hose behind the fire station for flushing toilets or other needs.

The Transfer Station will be open Thursday and Friday 8a-7:45p FOR BRUSH ONLY

The southern portion of Main Street still has power for those of you looking for food or gasoline.

Please be patient as we work together to overcome this. Nearly everyone working all day to help remedy the problem also has no power when they go home.

Our PSA for the evening: Traffic lights with no power ACT AS A STOP SIGN. All must stop in all directions.

A Tornado Warning has been issued. Stay indoors and seek shelter.

A storm capable of producing a tornado has been spotted on radar over Haddam and Durham. Stay indoors. Warning in effect until 3:15.
