UNH Ocean Engineering Program

UNH Ocean Engineering Program Students of ocean engineering are best served when they are formally trained inside a framework that fuses the expertise of these often-disparate fields.

The OE program at UNH provides students with hands-on opportunities for research in ocean renewable energy, marine robotics, ocean acoustics, ocean hydrodynamics, coastal and open ocean aquaculture, ocean mapping, and coastal processes. Ocean engineering is a field of study that seeks to solve engineering problems associated with the ocean, including those problems associated with the sustainable

utilization of ocean resources and the scientific exploration and study of the ocean environment. Ocean engineering is an interdisciplinary field with roots in mechanical, electrical, civil, and environmental engineering, with strong ties to physical, chemical, biological, and geological oceanography.

A tour of UNH's Chase OE Lab with Professor Wosnik early on a Saturday morning. He made this for prospective BSOE students, and it was so nice we thought we'd share it with everyone!

This is our senior-level undergraduate ocean measurements class, out on the water in small groups this fall where they're getting some hands-on experience. Where else would you want to be on a warm fall day? Or a cool and crisp fall day, for that matter!

It's official: our new BSOE program is an ABET accredited program, retroactive to our first graduation class! For those of you not familiar with the ABET accreditation process, we needed to wait until we graduated our first class to apply. The (on-going) hard work of the faculty, students, and administration has paid off - many thanks to all involved! We now join the ABET review cycle of several other UNH undergraduate programs. The complete list of UNH's ABET accredited programs can be found here:

Sea sq**rt power, robofish, wave makers, citizen science hydrophones, marine energy collegiate competitions, composite lines for kelp aquaculture, bubble dredging screens, underwater time-of-flight cameras. These are some of many topics that faculty proposed to our senior BSOE students this week for their capstone projects. We look forward to seeing what they've done with the projects they selected at UNH's Undergraduate Research Conference this spring!

Today was the first day of classes at UNH, and here is Professor Wosnik waiting for BSOE students to come get their PPE (face masks and face shields). It was a very pleasant spot to sit and read a book. And if you know Professor Wosnik, it will come as no surprise to you that he was reading a book titled "The Mechanics of Aerosols".
