NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTS AND AMBULANCE SERVICE CONTRACT

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing will be held by the Town Board of the Town of Durham, Greene County, New York at the Town Hall, 7309 Route 81, East Durham, NY on December 6, 2022 at 7:30 PM in the evening for the purpose of considering contracting with the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company for fire protection to be furnished by said Company to the East Durham Fire Protection District for the 2023 year, the Oak Hill-Durham Volunteer Fire Company for fire protection to be furnished by said Company to the Oak Hill Fire Protection District for the 2023 year, and the Durham Ambulance, Inc. for emergency ambulance service to be furnished by said corporation to the Town of Durham for the 2023 year. Copies of the contracts are available at the Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours. ALL persons interested in the matters will be heard at such time and place specified.

Welcome to Durham
Located in the beautiful Northern Catskills, Durham retains the agricultural character of its earliest days. Founded by settlers from Connecticut in the late 1700s, it developed primarily as a dairy farming community. The coming of modern transportation accelerated a shift to recreation, which saw the growth of boarding houses and family-owned resorts. Today, Durham offers the advantages of a rural lifestyle with easy access to the Albany Capital Region, an hour’s drive away, and to New York City, less than three hours away.
The town of Durham is composed of East Durham, Oak Hill, Cornwallville and Durham hamlet, and has a population of close to 3,000. It is served by a five-person town board, a local police department, two volunteer fire companies, and a local non-profit ambulance service, and it shares educational services with the nearby town of Cairo.
Durham offers historic homes, outdoor activities, and several active community groups. It boasts a number of family-run restaurants and businesses, as well as access to the nearby Windham and Hunter ski slopes and the popular cultural venues of Catskill and Hudson.
All of which makes the Town of Durham a great place to raise a family or to own a vacation home.
